That's what happens when you draft for needs (MDZ, SANguinetti, Gilroy being all offensive).
They didn't even try to trade down. What a joke of an organization.

Hmm if its at that cap hit, it'd be hard to justify letting him go, but the length definitely is the key. I'm scared to go more than 4 years. He's still only 28 years old. I'd sign him to a 5-year deal knowing fully well that I can trade him sometime in the future.

Its okay dude. This draft was one of the weirdest in a while. LOL at teams from 4-11 for NOT taking Fowler/Gormley! Best pick of the night went to NYR

If Volchenkov will agree to something in the 3.3-3.7 mil range, as suggested there, then I think BM has to bend and give him the 5th year. Then I trade Kuba and nail down a guy like Z. Michalek or Gonchar.

Volchenkov at $4.5 mil scares me. Volchenkov at $3.5 mil was what I thought we'd get him for at the start of the season last year.

I said that last night too!! I was sitting watching the draft and was like "why does this kid seem like a giant bust to me?"

Hip problems, that weird right hand...

He was some player as a 16-year-old though.

Definitely has some skills but he's worse than Phaneuf in interviews.

For sure. They made out like bandits with Fowler and they got the Californian kid in Etem. Lucky that both those guys fell as far as they did.

Connolly was definitely limping and favouring his hip when eh was walking to the stage. And yeah his right hand is a well known concern around the league. I am very surprised Tampa didn't take Gormley.

Teams were concerned with Connolly's hand being deformed and that it would lead to early arthritis. And his hip should be a concern too. Obviously Tampa and Yzerman were not concerned.

Quinton Howden's the kid that broke his femur when he was a young kid. That shouldn't be a concern since he was very young.
