Are you able to get Optic TV by Telus or SHAW Satellite? I've only seen the Telus commercials advertising something similar to whole home PVR like
Rogers. SHAW is my next provider unless a miracle happens with Bell like providing sportsnet and TSN at no extra charge plus lowering the rest of the bill significantly and giving me the receivers for free.

Not a fan of Satellite, but I did see a Shaw Direct ad stuffed in with the mail or the other flyers, so they are probably available.

I don't think Telus is here yet. I've been waiting since I first heard we could get employee discounts when I was working for Alcatel. That's probably close to a decade ago by now. I'm not holding my breath.

However Bell FibeTV *is* coming. I know they aren't any better, but their PVR *is*.

Although I'd read on DHC that a major IPG upgrade is being tested and will be rolled out sometime in the new year. It will be higher resolution and, hopefully, will include some more features (but I kind of doubt that).

Also, got confirmation that the Rogers and Videotron PVRs are exactly the same from a h/w perspective, but Videotron just subsidizes theirs more.

I wonder if it would be possible to buy a Videotron one and get it authorized on the Rogers network.

All these companies are in cahoots.

Damn Bell,... my satellite went down. And I can't clear it off because it is too high on the roof.

Fibe TV forces you to get Fibe Internet and Bell's crappy bandwidth caps.

You know those wires you put on your roof to melt off the ice? String them across your dish Smile

Mine is strategically placed near my bedroom window. I just open the window and brush it off with a broom. :D BTW I still hate Satellite and wish any cable provider had service where I am.

But who will provide your interweb? Do you have FTTH with Bell or is it a copper loop? If it's not a new house, given where you are, chances are it's copper loop and quite a ways from the CO, in which case you are limited in how much b/w you can get.

And even if b/w is not a problem, how much will Bell charge you for those GB you'll be downloading?

I think your best bet is FTA, to be honest, supplemented with strategic downloading or streaming. The problem is you'll get HNIC from the CBC antenna at Camp Fortune, and I think that's about it. Does RDS broadcast FTA? I'm pretty sure that neither SNet or TSN do so.

I've heard there are some heating dishes you can place on the satellite dish and you just plug it in as needed. Problem is getting to it right now cause we have a Mattamy urban townhouse. Very high roof. I can't access it from my window either, and the only way is to climb the roof. Don't feel like breaking anything or dying. No wonder 98% of the people in the area have Rogers.

I had satellite about 5-6 years ago and it was annoying how it would fade out if there was a dark-enough cloud in the way. Sometimes we'd even have sunny weather where we were, but there would be a cloud in the distance but right where the satellite was pointing. And of course snow -- especially the sticky kind.
