Check it out:

I was reading on HFBoards that the Panthers have:

1.Boumeester
2.Ballard
3.McCabe
4.Boynton
5.Allen
6.Skrastins
7.Welch
8.Murphy

The OP had suggested the Sens trade Hennessy and a 3rd rounder for Murphy and a 4th rounder, to which I say: Deal!

I don't really see this as helping us, but then also adds another contract into our cap. I don't like this move at all.

I saw that yesterday and thought WOW someone actually suggested a reasonable deal on here (HFBoard). I would swing that in a heartbeat.

That's why throwing in Schubert helps us out more, unfortunately not for him.

Picard would have to sit this season out though.

It adds to the cap but it also gives flexibility as we add another quality offensive Dman. If Murphy does well we can send Richardson to the minors where he can tutor our younger guys. If Murphy doesnt then it eats up space until a deal can be made or we let him walk at seasons end. As for Hennesy I think he could do with a fresh start elsewhere and Florida maybe the best place for it.

The guy is 30 years old and never played a full nhl season though? We already have a surplus of d-men. How is 2 goals in 40+ games offensive? Volchenkov can get kind of output.

I say no.

I totally agree. How is Murphy an improvement over anything?

I'm sorry but he's a 30 year old that has not been able to produce in the NHL...nothing doing here at all....his numbers are good for a Finish league player bu8t 2 goals in 47?

2007-08 Florida NHL 47 2 15 17 0 22 65 3.08
2006-07 HIFK Helsinki Fin 45 13 37 50 +17 46 300 4.33

I dont think Florida is a place where Schubert would get a place to play D regularly. I think he can be moved somewhere else like St. Loius, Atlanta, Columbos where he could get quality playing time on D and still be part of their future.

I guess I should have looked at his stats. I was going basically on what I have heard about him being an offensive Dman lost in a bad florida team.

12 PP points in 47 games is the stat to look at. He can really run a PP, I was very impressed watching him last year.

As I said, very Corvo-esque, but not a Wing Dang Doodle.

He's waaaaaaaaay too small for one, and 2, he's never played a full season of NHL hockey. Okay, so his numbers in Finland and wherever else are very impressive, but 17 points in the NHL in 47 games isn't very offensive...Volchenkov put up pretty much the same amount of points. I don't know, I'm not keen on the idea personally...

I've watched him play and he's no Joe Corvo. I think you're way over rating him Heater. Why is he not on the top 2 defencemen in Florida then. He doesn't offer anything we don't already have here.
