Foligno feel out of favour and found himself on the 4th line a lot of the year. Do you pay a 21 year old 4th liner anything over 1mil? IMO, along with Lee, he is one guy that could possibly be moved.

If Cullen is signed I think he takes that spot that Foligno was penciled in for the future.

Michalek/Spezza/Regin
Alfi/Fisher/Cullen
Neil/Kelly/Ruutu
Smith/Winchester/Bass

Wow, I cant even fit Kovalev in there...

Sadly I think both Bass and Smith play in the minors and it looks more like this. And that's assuming Foligno is traded.

Alfie/Spezza/Michalek
Kovalev/Fisher/Cullen
Butler (roster spot guaranteed)/Winchester/Regin(he'll be top six before mid season)
Neil/Kelly/Ruutu

Haha, noooo shot, maybe for Edmonton's 2nd round pick but that's about it. Foligno was drafted 28th and probably hasnt done much to improve that rating. He's worth about the 31st overall pick.

What happened to Neil? Or is Jim Slater an ancient spelling for Chris Neil? Sarcasm

No way does that 3rd line of Neil/Kelly/Ruutu gets touched unless Ruutu gets dealt in the last year of his deal, which is also something I could see. Perhaps you put Smith on that side of those two.

Regin/Spezza/Michalek
Alfi/Fisher/Kovalev
Neil/Kelly/Cullen
Smith/Winchester/Butler

I changed it. I quickly realized you can't have a winning lineup without the embodiment of WIN.

If you're going to sign Cullen to play on the 3rd line, you might as well not even bother.

Why? He's going to be on the PK and PP. The 3rd line plays the same amount as the 1st and 2nd line even strength. Who cares who his line mates are, he plays in every situation.

Cullen should have better linemates. I'm just looking at what might bring more team success is all.

Meh, it all depends. I dont think you can plug Kovalev on that 3rd line. The 4th line will be for the younger guys grinding it out finding their way. Maybe you do this

Regin/Spezza/Michalek
Alfi/Cullen/Kovalev
Neil/Fisher/Kelly
Butler/Winchester/Smith

How ever you want to do it, I think that right there is the lineup for next year. Ruutu and Foligno could very well be on the move, that would get The Sens some draft picks and save The Sens about 2.5 mil on the cap. They may need that space.

keep Ruutu and deal Kovalev.. I'd be happy with that.

Ya, again Kovalev, as much as some people dont like his inconsistant play, was a huge reason for the teams success this year.

I think it's far more likely that the Sens would be able to move Ruutu over Kovalev.

still rather have Cullen signed at 3-3.5 than Kovalev signed at 5

Keep both. Ruutu had an excellent playoff and the playoffs are what he was signed for in the first place. At 1.3 million it would be silly to deal him to make room for Butler @ 900K.

Kovalev only runs the risk of having an even better season with Cullen and perhaps Michalek or Alfredsson as linemates over Fisher and a revolving door of wingers over the course of the season.

Ruutu still takes a lot of dumb penalties and with Smith, Winchester, Neil, Fisher, Phillips, Carkner, there is a lot of toughness and a ton of pushback.

Ruutu had the best year he will ever have in The NHL and this is probably the guy you should sell high on with his one year left on his contract. He wont be resigned, I'm pretty sure of that and there will be a spot or two for a rookie to make the team up front.

With Smith I think Ruutu becomes a little bit of overkill.
