POLL: Gonchar or Volchenkov

There's never any choice from fans on UFAs and usually the GMs can't pick and choose either - depending on what team they're running and how much coin they have.

BUT, hypothetically speaking, would you prefer Volchenkov at 4 million or Gonchar at 6 million?

I gotta say make the room for Gonchar as a knee jerk reaction. How old is Gonchar though? Does he have 3 years of top end play left in him?

35 years old - good question. Maybe not actually, but he'd be effective for at least 2 of the 3.

I'd be a little worried about him falling off dramatically a la Sergei Zubov.

Speaking of Volchenkov, any news regarding his contract?

The only update I heard was Volchenkov's agent Jay Grossman saying that the Senators had 'reason to be optimistic' regarding A-Trains contract, then he turned around and said the fact that Volchenkov had been shutting down some of the league's best would not go unnoticed by his suitors. So who the heck knows what's happening. He didn't do so well at the Olympics, that's for sure.

I would never sign Gonchar for 3 years. So I guess that's a no. I would sign him for 2 maybe...1 for sure though.

Go talk to Pens fans and see what answer they would give you. I know we need a legit #1 PMD, but Gonchar no longer fits the bill. He might be a slight upgrade for 1 year, but after that we'll wish we had signed Volchenkov.

Neither at those prices. I'd much rather Gonchar at 5M than Volch at 3.5M though.

Then you better tell Kuba to score some goals on the PP by driving to the net from the left wing.

Gonchar would be a fantastic addition, but I think he resigns with the Pens.
