And Carkner will never sit, it'll be Campoli. In fact, I'm not sure Campoli even is a Sen after tomorrow.

I agree with you that Seidenberg's price tag is a little steep but at the same time we need more then one d pairing that can contribute offensively. We've been having trouble getting scoring from the blue line all season. This move doesn't really help that.

A 35 year old depth rental? 3rd/4th rounders + Brian Lee/Obrien ish would have gotten my vote.

Eheh ... unfortunately, neither you, I or anyone else here gets a vote Sad I wish this was more of a democracy for sure Smile

I don't. No offense to anyone here, but there's a reason we're all here and Bryan Murray is the GM of the Ottawa Senators. We can shoot the Dung with no pressure whatsoever, and he has to make multi-million dollar decisions that will affect the franchise for years to come.

If he's such a great scoring dman (or that much better than Sutton) why does he only have 4 more point despite playing the point on the PP.

Hog wash...plain and simple we know 1/2 of what we think we do, and in this case you've provided no names to prove what PMD we could get for that 2nd round pick.

just read this in the Ottawa citizen article about Sutton, and I apologize if someone already posted this, but my first thoughts were NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. TRADE DEADLINE BONANZA! - Page 45 395361

Brendan Bell, the Ottawa native who played for the Senators last season, could be coming back.

I never said it did. My point is that Murray consistently trades our picks away for little more than fluff at the deadline. Why is he bothering, that's my point.

How is this move sensible? Depth? We need another defensive d-man behind Phillips, Volchenkov and Carkner? No. We could have used a PMD tenfold more.

You can't have a PMD. It's that plain and simple. You can have Liles from Colorado as long as you take his 4.2 million per year, outside of that? I don't see many available - and if they are, it would cost an arm and a leg.

Fine. You can't have one. It still doesn't change the fact that we are trading a 2nd away for a guy who is a redundant part for one of biggest areas of strength on this team. It's just illogical to me, unless it's a precursor to another move. Knowing Murray's deadline history though, I won't be laying any money on it.

Are you trying to tell me that Sutton has the same value than Grebeshkov?
If yes, then this discussion is likely over, and we'll agree to disagree.
PLus, the fact that we now have 4 defensive defensemen in the line up when we have one of the worst PP in the league doesn't quite work with me.

I guess it is over...you really think that Greb is that much better...he has 4 more points for gods sake...he's not as physical, he doesn't block as many shots and he's an RFA (which as someone pointed out we have enough of a problem with the ones we currently need to sign).

As for the Powerplay, seems to me that if Kuba started shooting more it wouldn't be an issue. Greb is hardly the answer to our PP woes.

Grebeshkov is a good player, he's young, and I'll take an RFA anyday over a UFA. Wouldn't you? We have Volchenkov, Philips and Carkner, and they are very very good on being physical, blocking shots and checking. What's the difference between Carkner and Sutton really? Our PK is awesome, and our PP is brutal. Grebeshkov has a very good shot which should instantly improve our PP. heck, Kuba is on the 1st unit and his shot is not even better (when he decides to shoot once in 10 opportunities).
I've watched the Oilers a few times this year and Grebeshkov is worse than Campoli. He is terrible.

He's a reflection of the team he plays on this year.
Anyways, with the kind of hockey Clouston plays, I'm just saying, Grebeshkov fits the bill better than Sutton and he's younger, RFA has a 39 point season and has a good shot.
Where exactly is Sutton gonna play in here? With Carkner?

Souray? Visnovsky? Zidlicky was. Corvo (no chance)?
Souray has a NTC and another year at 5.4M. Visnovsky will cost one of our 3D prospects + probably a 1st and we'd have to send salary back. Zidlicky was never available, Minny was going to resign him. Corvo (no chance) is right.

But the question was name some who are available, and I did. Never said at what cost. But they are available. And Zidlicky's name came up quite a bit, you bet people were calling about him.

I'm also having a hard time finding a spot for Foligno when he comes back.

Right now: (not 100% accurate lines)

Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Cullen-Fisher-Kovalev
Winchester-Regin-Shannon
Ruutu-Kelly-Neil
*Donovan/Foligno

and on Defence we likely have Lee/Campoli on the outs.

Surely you can package some of that excess for one better player? Might take more from our end, but still, start shedding some of that excess weight.

In case you were curious I checked a few teams scoring from Defencemen this season:

San Jose 29 goals
Washington 28 goals (Green has 14)
Chicago 27 goals
Calgary 27 goals (Phaneuf has 10 of them)
Ottawa 25 goals
Pittsburgh 24 goals

It's just a little more spread out here.

The Pros:

1.Leads the Islanders in ice time, averaging over 20 minutes a night
2.2nd in the entire NHL in blocked shots
3.Among the league leaders in hits (led the Islanders)
4.Is finally injury free and playing his best hockey in years according to Islander fans
5.Makes players think twice about crashing the crease - or even looking for rebounds

To Cons:
1.Cost a 2nd round pick - and we could use that pick
2.Isn't the top 4 D-man we all hoped for
3.Isn't offensive

I don't know, you don't like it, neither did I until I heard more about Sutton's game this year.

Foligno replaces Winchester.
Lee will never, ever be a viable option with Murray in charge.

Also, just because people call about a player doesn't make them available.

I think alot of ppl are up in arms because we're expecting to make a splash at the deadline.....newsflash, that ain't gonna happen!!! The only way I see Volchenkov being traded is if we receive a pmd in return + a draft pick. And only playoff teams will take a volchenkov player, and only playoff teams are not willing to part with a pmd, so he's not going to be traded at all. There's no way Murray trades Volchie for just picks or another forward, especially after today's trade.
