Hmmm, maybe because Seidenberg is on the Florida roster? Sarcasm

Really? I think that would be a terrible move. Ottawa has jack**** for offensive depth in the future. Spezza, Michalek, and Regin are the only other proven/semi-proven young scoring forwards on the roster.

Z. Smith is our most NHL-ready prospect but he's not a top-6 player. Petersson is a talent but the knock's always been that he's more likely to be a star in the European leagues and we have no idea how his game will transfer over to the NHL. Silfverberg's a good player but it remains to be seen where he'll slot in, Caporusso's small and a long-shot, and Grant's a project.

Foligno is significantly younger than Kelly, cheaper than Kelly, and better than Kelly. He's also a less replaceable talent, and his game translates very nicely into the playoffs. Moving him cripples our young forward corps, and I don't want to waste the awesomeness of Karlsson-Cowen-Wiercioch by not having any offensive depth in front of them.

In short, move Foligno if you have to but not if you have the choice to move Kelly instead.

Do you really project Foligno to be a top-six for years to come? I personally don't think he will be. This is a contract year for him and he was supposed to have an amazing year and he didn't. I just don't see him fitting it on Ottawa's top-six. I mean I do because we have no one else but I don't think he's top six material. With Kelly you know what you get, with Foligno, who knows... We are in desperate need of offensive help. I wouldn't be surprised if BM makes a move at the draft. Definitely not top 5 but maybe to acquire a top 12 pick. Expect A LOT of forwards to be drafted this year and maybe a move for a prospect this summer.

To make up for my last post, here's something I just found that might be of interest.

Holy Christ...the kid is 21! Give him a chance to develop before you start saying he's not likely to be a player who can make an impact for us. He had 17 goals in what was his first full year on the team last season and this year he was already starting to look like more and more of a scoring threat with his bullish strength, underrated speed and strong board work.

Giving up on the guy right now isn't just foolish, it's flat out dumb. And it's the kind of move that you look back on and say "What the hell was that GM thinking when he made that trade?"

We'll probably get him cheaper for that reason.

For Keith Ballard, you likely give up Wiercioch and a forward roster, likely a Regin or Foligno for Ballard + a pick. Unlike the others on the list, he's not a rental.
I'd love to have him but we would have to sacrifice some of the future. Kelly would need to go to make salaries work, but I don't think Murray trades Kelly after seeing what he paid to retain Neil. I'd be surprised.

I think we settle for Hamuis. Cheap, didn't have a very good year, gives options for the summer.

Exactly, Foligno was showing signs of becoming a top 6 forward before his injury. You don't give up on that when he's only 21 unless you're getting a hell of a player in return for him.

I really think it will be a much more subdued move, nothing like a Ballard. We just can't afford to give away pieces of our roster/future on the whims of a better than expected season.

I've said before, I wouldn't be surprised to see something happen between the Sens and Islanders involving Leclaire + Lee for Sutton + a backup goalie.

What would you think of this PKC?

Leclaire and Lee for

Sutton and Biron

Why would the Isles want Leclaire though? They've already got 3 potential starting goalies on their team already.

The management would be insane to trade Leclaire while we`re making a run in the playoffs.

Acquiring Ballard is a move for right now and the future. Acquiring a UFA would be the whimsical move.

They are going to be moving those other two goaltenders as insurance markers, and I think Leclaire could be the kind of goaltender they could use as a potential fail-safe in case DiPietro can't get his career back on track.

It's convoluted, I know. But there will be teams looking for cheap veteran backups come March 3, that's a guarantee.

I like it. Sutton gives us a guy for the 5/6 spot, keeps our top pairings in tact and Biron is the kind of goalie to keep Elliott honest and is a great guy to have in case things go south in nets for some reason.

Perhaps, but it's also a move that's going to be costly, and making the cap space AND roster space for this guy might not be worth it in terms of the team's structure.

I'm not saying I'm against getting this guy, but at the cost that he will come in, there may be better options in the interim.

If we can move Kuba though, I'm all in for getting Ballard.

They could I guess...we'll see.

I know I'd take Roloson or Biron over Leclaire though.

I think people are giving up on Leclaire too quickly, Islanders are the last team that are going to take another goalie.

There's a reason Leclaire didn't play this past weekend and it's because he's struggling with his game. Hopefully after the break he gets that straightened out but if he doesn't then Murray might have to make a move.

We can't go in solely relying on a rookie goalie. Elliott's been good but we need an adequate backup.
