Here's what I know. Seidenberg plays 22 minutes a night, has 22 points, leads the league in blocked shots and has more hits than Volchenkov and Weber, to name two.

If that's all it takes to land this player, when in 2010 a 2nd rounder gets you Wallin and a 5th, I'll be a happy camper.

Hahaha, so true about Wallin.

This team has almost zero top-6 forward prospects and Foligno (esp. lately) is the best of the bunch.

Who's going to replace Alfie and Kovalev down the road ? We got nothing.

Michalek, Spezza (I mean...right?), Regin, Kelly. I realize what you're saying, it's bad news, but...assuming we draft mostly forwards for the next couple of years, combined with the fact that the cold hard truth is: Alfie and Kovalev retiring/leaving is 9 million dollars in cap space...you can probably get by without Foligno going forward.

It's not optimum to trade a cheap power forward like that, but it depends on the return IMO.

Going forward, as in not just this year but now to five years, what's a bigger concern to address: our blueline with Phillips, Karlsson, Kuba, Weircioch, Cowen, Carkner, Volchenkov or our forward ranks with Spezza, Michalek, Fisher, Regin?

You serious? This feels like a career season for the guy and he's still only on pace to score 14 goals.

Wait, have you guys mixed up who Kelly and Foligno are? POLL: Which D-man will the Sens acquire on/by March 3rd - Page 8 Icon_razz

I'm not the biggest Bryan Murray fan, since I was calling for his head in early January, but one thing I like about him as GM is that he is willing to make that deal a couple of weeks before the deadline, instead of waiting until the very last minute to make a trade. Adding Cullen when he did allows Clouston, Cullen, and his linemates, whoever they may be, to develop something.
I hope the Sens do acquire another Dman before the deadline. But isn't Karlsson hopefully coming back after the break?

Karlsson is expected to be healthy before the break is over.

Some of the talk in here has been purely crazy. Talking about keeping Kelly, a guy who many have insisted can be replaced by the likes of Zack Smith, over a guy like Nick Foligno who should and can be a 25+ goal scorer in the league is hilarious.

You deal from your position of strength and deal for your position of weakness. Dealing a promising young forward for yet another defenseman is ridiculous. It doesn't address anything we need considering that Keith Ballard is not a number 1 defenseman, just like Kuba isn't a number 1 defenseman.

Agreed. Compared to Kelly, Foligno is 7 years younger, half as expensive, considerably more talented and not nearly as replaceable. Foligno's a 22-year-old powerforward with wheels, heart (see the cause for his injury, for one), a work ethic and a rapidly-emerging skill-set. As I recall, he was also basically to Sudbury what Nash is to Columbus, so I'd be surprised if he doesn't develop to be comparable defensively to what Kelly is now. And given he scored 17 goals as a 21-year-old last season, I don't see how he can't be projected as a 25/25 Fisher-esque winger.

As for #22, unless a defensive forward is Selke-calibre (and I don't think Kelly is), he's pretty easily replaceable through the draft or through free agency, especially at Kelly's price.

Yeah, I'm not sure why I put Kelly in there. I'm off sick today, that might have something to do with it. Crazy Eyes

Whoa, whoa. I'm not advocating keeping Kelly over Foligno, I'm saying that you have to give something to get something. If the talk around the campfire is of Robidas or Ballard, then we can expect to give up something of consequence. Kelly is not a piece that has major value on the trade market, Foligno is.

I forgot to put Visnovsky on that list. Facepalm Diddle, one of my favourite puck movers.
