Ya, more or less what I'm thinking. I think the flames went into this season knowing that things weren't headed in the direction they had hoped with Dion. So, they were proactive in the offseason, signing Jay B. Keep in mind what they still have on D in Calgary. They win cap space iand maybe what they see as a better fit for them on their blueline.

Exactly my point. Burke has given up on the season (of course), and Calgary is making a serious push for the playoffs now.
Hagman and Ian White are underrated.

I really hope BM did his due diligence on Phaneuf. He's pretty much the D we've been needing for, oh, 3 years now.

He's done it I think, hence no Phaneuf in Ottawa. Hell, if that's what Phanuef fetched, we could have gotten Backlund and Phaneuf for Spezza.

Being in Calgary, I see quite a bit of Dion, and I can tell you he's not worth the $6.5 he's being paid. He's irresponsible defensively, sometimes looking downright lost. He's often caught out of position try to get on the HONour roll with a big hit. Plus, there's the ever popular "issues off the ice".

Hagman especially. He can kill penalties quite well, which helps the loss of Sjostrom, who is an elite PKer. Plus, he's capable of 30 goals especially considering Calgary's lineup. Ian White may not have top 4 minutes, but he's a guy who can play some minutes for them.

I can't get over the fact that Sutter had to give up Aulie (who's got a future) and Sjostrom in addition to Phaneuf. For Sutter, I'd say it put up or shut up time. He's been living off of the '04 run for too long now. If this blows up in Calgary's face, I wouldn't be surprised to see a new GM and massive changes.

Karlsson's play as of late and Cowen coming has basically turned me off on trading for a 5M+ defenseman... Love what Murray is doing right now (by doing nothing)

Bourque, Iginla, Jokinen, Langkow, Stajan and Hagman as their top 6.

Toronto has:
Kessel, Bozak, Ponikarovsky, Grabovski... Ugh.

Yeah, this deal would make way more sense to me if Burke still had his first. Chiarelli must be laughing hard right now.

Before the season, was supposed to top 4 defense in the East. 5 Months later, has allowed more goals than any team in the league. Granted, Goaltending has not been spectacular but even...

Should have changed the coaching staff before the team.

The GM has been slightly less than impressive too. The Giguere deal I can understand, but that's two really questionable deals now that Burke has made.

EDIT: Burke really makes me appreciate the patient approach Murray takes.

Let's hope Komisarek doesn't make any "sloppy seconds" comments towards Dion, seeing as he has dated Elisha Cuthbert also, a tad awkward.

at first i was about to fall of my chair and start crying (no phaneuf for ottawa) then realized we still have cowen and weiroch so no need to be down, and its great that they may become this defensive team with all new goaltending but there going to be spending a lot of time in their own zone.
we play them not to far from now should be interesting.

I'm sure Boston would take him back for a 2011 1st

Phaneuf is all flash and no substance. He wouldn't fit in to our dressing room. I'm thankful Murray wasn't a player here.

I predict a Kovalev hat trick playing against Stempniak and Grabovski.
