Rangers acquire Todd White

The NY Rangers have acquired Todd White from the Atlanta Thrashers, in exchange for Donald Brashear and Patrick Rissmiller.

Exactly. White only played 65 games last season and was held to 35 points or something like that, and at 35 he is on the decline no doubt, but I would have thought his value would have been higher than that.

But NY also added a $2.75M cap hit and shed a $1.4M one (Brashear) and added a guy who was in the AHL last year. Still blows my mind how they do all this addign without subtracting.

If they plan on paying Wade Redden $6.5M to play in the AHL, then have pity for the Rangers owner. They still have a RFA Marc Staal. Watch them let him sit out for cap reasons.

He's one of the biggest Dung for brains at signing players, but he's actually fairly astute at trading if that makes any sense.

I just saw on CapGeek's Twitter that the buy-out for both Rissmiller and Brashear would end up saving the Thrashers ~$800K vs. if they kept White. Not sure if they are going to do so or not, but maybe they end up doing that?

EDIT: Apparently they have already waived Brashear.
