Where are all the people that wanted him demoted now just out of curiosity? Where are all the people saying Brodure is the way to go? (not that Brodure hasnt played really well when asked) Where are all the people saying he isnt an NHL goaltender? Well right now, the only goaltender that has been on his level for the last 2, 3 weeks is Luongo.

I'm kidding. But if there's any truth to Washington potentially looking at Kovalchuk, Shero would be wise to do something about it.

Malkin is doomed to play in Crosby's shadow in Pittsburgh and Kovalchuk seems to want to play with a Center equal to his talents.

Obviously, lesser players and/or picks and/or prospects would be in play but that's the meat of it and it would look good for both teams, IMO.

How can either of Pittsburgh or Washington afford that guy? It's just not possible.

Kovalchuk is going to LA. They have SO many pieces to move, so much cap space and are one superstar forward away from blitzing the Western conference.

If LA gets Kovalchuk, I find it hard to pick against them to win the West this year.

The same way that the Hawks can afford him - by trading the same $$ out PLUS picks and prospects.

I think you're off on this one. That team is built for the playoffs, and Kovalchuk puts them so way over the top it's not even funny.

Why would Waddell do that though? He has the chance to get this right this time, why go the Marian Hossa route again?

How is it built for the playoffs? Goalies - 0 playoff games combined. Captain - 0 playoff games. Doughtey, Johnsson, Kopitar, Simmons, Moeller, and a hand full of others, 0 playoff games. Add in Kovulchuk who has only 4, all which were losses, even with him I dont see The Kings making any real noise.

One step at a time for that team, first step is making the playoffs.

1st Round Pick + Versteeg OR Sharp + Barker. Those aren't the same losers that he got for Hossa. That's a nice package IMO - and the money works out well (perfectly).

No one wants to believe that Chicago is in serious cap trouble for next year, I guess. Nor do they believe in McDonough's ego, manifested in the signings of Hossa and Soupy, btw.

Just like it does make sense for Pittsburgh to consider swapping out big long-term deals for a mix of expiring deals, young players and a big rental, the same goes for Chicago.

Much less sense for Washington, but we keep hearing they want Souray... so why not Kovalchuk too?

Absolutely. Makes all kinds of sense for CHI. They're going to have to shed salary soon anyway. Versteeg + Barker (those two guys CHI had to sign last-minute and overpay because of the qualifying offer mix-up) and a pick/prospect for Kovalchhuk is good asset management for CHI, even if (perhaps especially if) they don't re-sign Kovalchuk, because they're going to have shed salary before July 1 anyway. What would you rather have -- an extra 2nd round pick or two in late June, or a stacked team heading into the playoffs? Kovalchuk on CHI would be insane. Just call off the post-season and give them the cup on Mar. 3. You could put me in net and they'd still win.

Biggest hit of the night: Neil on Eaton.

Does anyone know who laid the second biggest hit?

Kovalev is a perfect example of this team. Damn near bi-polar, going from extremely bad to extremely good. When he's on, he's worth every red cent of that contract. I'm sure that's what Melnyk thought he would be getting.

The same could be said for the Hawks last year and they went deep. Lack of experience doesn't always mean a quick exit. They've got alot of character on that club, even with the young guys like Doughty and Brown.
