If I understand this whole cap thing correctly (and it's highly, highly unlikely I don't) then should Cheechoo's waiving only open up room for a similar cap-hit? Certainly it wouldn't give us enough room for a $7 millioner.
I'm wrong, it's when you acquire a guy making 7 million that he's down to around 3 at the deadline, not if you jettison a player.

Waive Cheechoo and call him back up. Worse case scenario is you pay half his salary this year and next year. If there are no takers send him back down, play out the rest of the season in the minors, and buy him out in the summer.
