Wow, imagine when that's his effort on a night in, night out basis, then add some electric offence to it and that'll be the norm in a few years. GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Washington Capitals - 7:00pm ET - Thu. Jan. 7th, 2010 - Page 12 805406

Plus more muscle, more speed, greater understanding of NHL systems, more confidence, more defensive awareness, and better NHL timing opening up an avenue for open-ice hitting.

I'm not regretting the pick, no.

How did this guy get a coaching job?

Both Wilson and Carvel need to go.

EDIT: I'm not really surprised or disappointed with tonight's result, though.

I thought Ottawa had no chance tonight, because of the goalie.

Carey Price was a former pupil I believe.

How is leclaire doing?

Told ya. Time to become a realist.

Wake up people. Our goaltending is a mess. Anyone that said otherwise...well forget it. You all know by know.

This supports my arguement that Wilson will be gone before Leclaire. How many goalies do you have to go through before making a change in the coaching. Murray needs to bring in someone who has played the game and has considerable experience who hopefully turn things around for Leclaire and Elliott. Do we really want Eli working with Lehner.

i think all has been said already on the negative elements of this game but the positive has outshinned the negative for me. sure we might not make the playoffs this year at this rate but we've got one hell of a top 2 pairing developping at the moment. man is karlsson fast and agile!!! once he figures how to score he will be one of the best.
now bulk up buddy, bulk up.

Volchenkov, who is our best defender and the NHL's leading shot blocker in history I believe may not get re-signed because of those two? And every year the same story - we lack a legitimate #1 goalie, we lack a legitimate top 6 forward, we lack a legitimate offensive defenceman... how many times can Murray think or pretend to address these areas and the fans continue to believe he has done his job? How many more years will Senator fans continue to put up with failure? Sure, we might be a playoff team, but that is likely as far as we will go. Alfredsson probably has one year left the way he's been getting injured, what happens then? There's so much hatred towards our #1 center, what do we do if you get your wish and he is traded? What if we lose Volchenkov? A Rebuild is really something that needs to be considered.

Dude, if you don't think Phillips is worth every penny, you need to think again. The guy does positively everything you ask of him -- kills penalties, clears bodies, is physical, fights when he has to, chips in the occasional goal, moves the puck out of the zone well, and is an all-around solid leader and community guy.

Again, we're blaming our #3/4 pairing guys for being forced into #1/2 roles.

I'd rather get a top 10 pick then lose in the playoffs. Even with a trade deadline acquisition, Ottawa's not in a position to compete with the leading contending teams. Pessimistic? Yes. Realistic? Absolutely. One bad game? We've had a lot more than one bad game. And every game, good or bad, usually has been overshadowed by at least one awful goal.

The prospect of a top 10 draft pick, however, doesn't sell tickets -- but playoff hockey does. If there's a chance we can make the playoffs, Melnyk will throw his full support behind that -- 100% of ticket sale profits go to the owner, after all, as players are paid for the regular season and not the playoffs. Even if we get bounced in the first round, the playoffs represent an opportunity to recoup a lot of money. Given the recent attendance drop, Melnyk is going to jump at the chance, no questions asked.

People calling for a full-scale re-build don't seem to appreciate fully that the team might not survive that in this market.

Ugh - just caught the highlights. 2 big softies from Leclaire and one waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of position. We looked pretty flat footed across the board. Brutal effort from the boys. Brutal.

Agreed, if a call up is needed, make it a 100% offensive guy and slot him into our top six right away. Seriously. After Kovalev's line, we looked like we had 3 3rd/4th lines.

Easily his best game so far this season. That's one bright patch in an otherwise cloudy day.
