Plus...the Carolina Hurricanes won the Cup because:

1.Ward was unconscious. One of the singular best performances (recently) in the post-season.

2.We had obliterated the Sabres D. They were the walking wounded.

3.After they had beaten the Sabres (who they probably shouldn't have), they faced the 8th seed from the West.

It was ALL on their side that year.

Similar road was laid out for the Tampa Bay Lightening team the year they won as well.

This is going to be a rough game tonight. Dono and Neiler will be smashing into anything with a Pens logo on. HappyDance1

I don't really remember that year. I remember they played the Flames, but I don't recall who they played in the East.

asq2 wrote:The good news is it's not necessarily necessary. Tampa and Carolina, for example, won with deep teams with a number of very good players, but not generational talents.

I'd say if our back end (Lehner, Karlsson, Cowen, Wiercioch specifically) develops as it can and we find a way to add some top-notch offensive players, we'll be in very good shape. I know Murray shot it down, but I can't help feeling that the addition of Filatov would be great for the organization.

Oh man, yeah for sure. I've been waiting impatiently for our Big 3 on D and Lehner to be ready so we can move forward. That'll put us at one of the best young Ds in the league IMO and one of the better young goalies to boot.

I'm excited. Ahhhhh!

Ahhhhh! Lalalala Ahhhhh!

Haha, that's Diddling cute.

It was similar in that Khabbibulin was unreal in net as well and they faced the 8th seed in the final.

The other thing you forgot to mention about the Carolina Cup win was the injury to Rolosson and the bonehead play by Conklin.

Neil will flatten several Penguins followed by a Carkner beat down. Alfie gets off the shnide (sp) tonight and the Sens win this one with solid team defense and a couple timely goals.

It wasn't enough to call the score and a couple of goal scorers, huh clutch? You had to script the whole game GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Pittsburgh Penguins - 7:00pm ET - Wed. Dec. 23rd, 2009 - Page 6 159628

Now the only concern is this Gonhard guy shabbs mentions in the Pens lineup. Anyone know anything about this guy? Is he any good? GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Pittsburgh Penguins - 7:00pm ET - Wed. Dec. 23rd, 2009 - Page 6 Icon_wink

Way to complain about someone's typo and introduce one of your own! Just call him "Potter" from here on in and avoid those issues.

Or were you taking Shabbs' typo and making it into a pun? Gon-Hard. Hmm, does he have hard gonads?

Maybe he took too much viagra GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Pittsburgh Penguins - 7:00pm ET - Wed. Dec. 23rd, 2009 - Page 6 95132

They had a hell of a playoff run that year, they creamed the Islanders and Habs in the first two rounds, had an EPIC seven game series against the Flyers where they destroyed Philly in game 7 (something like 6-2 or 7-1 if I recall) and then they had that 7 game war with Calgary to win the Cup.

That team was no joke. It's not a coincidence that they were one of the favorites to win it again the next year if not for the lockout.

Its Xmas Eve eve so I got a little carried away. I've gone into more detail than that before though.

I love that Regin is getting a chance with Michalek and, specifically, Alfie. That was the 2A line I wanted to see before the season began. I still think Cheechoo-Spezza-Kovalev would be a solid 2B line, while Foligno/Shannon-Fisher-Winchester would be a real tough 2C. Keep the 3rd line together but as a defacto 4th and we'd be looking good---and just like I thought we should in September GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Pittsburgh Penguins - 7:00pm ET - Wed. It does. It's just usually referred to as December 23rd. Dancing
