Dan Briere suspended 2 games for hit to head

Wow, Campbell grows a pair and actually does the right thing. I guess he's been so busy lately, he's got no time to do right by Shean Donovan.

Nice to see the NHL finally take action against Briere. I have always found him to be cowardly on the ice.

We'll see if the NHL continues to do the right thing if they suspend Nash for the hit from behind tonight.

You really want to take out dirty hits in this game? Fine the team.

I have no problem with the instigator rule. The problem is the weak Donkey suspensions. Honestly, if Campbell started dishing out 10 games for hits like Neil on Drury, Janssen on Kaberle, and Richards on Booth, then the problem would go away quickly. Same goes for obvious hits from behind into the boards and slew foots. 1/8 of a players salary is a better deterent. Do you really think a guy threating to beat your head in is going to deter you more than a couple hundred grand.

Perhaps not, but I think there an argument to be made that since the inception of the instigator rule, these sorts of incidents have risen. I don't think that it is a coincidence. Your point about the league actually cracking down is well taken though, regardless of whether or not the instigator rule is there or not, the first line of defence against these sorts of things is swift, proper justice by the league.

Swift proper justice that applies to all players equally will help too. Allowing guys like Pronger (with a track record), Ovechkin and many other stars, to just do what they wish won't help clean this up.
