Honestly...doubt this one happens.

Anyway, it's been fun to kick around.

I think Bryan Murray is going to stick with the team he has, and rely on Clouston to get the max out of these guys.

Like I explained before, from Chicago's side, Bowman's not in any hurry to make changes.

The Hawks are near the top of the league.

Hossa's coming back, he's going to evaluate the team, and then assess what the options are.

He also doesn't need to clear cap space until next June, despite what Bob McKenzie keeps saying.

All this 'cap yapping' from TSN is getting old. And boring.

GMH, on the other hand, is NEVER boring.

Thanks and have a great evening, y'all.

Yeah, the Hawks shouldn't let go of Barker until they absolutely need to. Sopel on the other hand...

Sopel's been very reliable. If a good deal comes along, he might move. If not, no big deal. Worst case scenario is a buyout at year-end.

OK...I'm out. Thanks for the discussion!

It all comes down to how much they're jonesin' to make the announcement that they've signed their core long term (Toews, Kane and Keith). Will Stan Bowman's ego get the better of him and cause him to make a move now so they can make the announcement now? Or will they wait? Is Bowman worried that if they sit on this too long that those guys will want more money...? These are the questions that DTR needs to find the answers to with his connections. His DEEP PENETRATING connections...

I agree with you that Bowman is no hurry, why would he be, he doesn't need the cap space until next year. The marketing/business side of the organization is another matter entirely. Nothing makes headlines better than resigning 3 young stars at a glitzy press conference. Mr. McDonough really loves to make splashes (ie. HOSSA press conference) and he may be in a hurry.

Seriously, if next year Keith makes something like 5M, campbell at 7.5 and Seabrook at 3.5, that's like 15M for 3 defensemen, they better trade Barker now. I wouldn't want to go into July 2010 with one mindset that is: to get rid of X Millions as soon as possible. At least if they trade Barker now they could get some good value back.
On the other side, the other GMs probably want to wait for them to get desperate.

No one knows whats going to happen in Chicago but IMO, besides touching the top 4 D men and basically anyone up front, everything else is up in the air.

They will not move Sharp, too valuable, too good. They will not move Campbell (during the year) he's their number 3 Dman, thats pretty deep so why ruin that. Huet... well no one is going to take that contract except maybe Washington but then who plays goal?

Only 2 guys I can see leaving Chicago are Barker and Sopel. Those are there 5, 6 guys, easily replaceable in terms of their minutes and impact, Sopel being the obvious guy to go at this point. Barker could be a really good D man one day, but Chicago has 4 really good Dmen right now and even despite Campbell's contract, he does make that team better.

If Barker is there come years end along with Campbell, then they might decide to keep Barker over Campbell at that point, but in season, Campbell stays and Barker would be dealt.

Versteeg's name has been lofted about with the return of Hossa... but who knows. We'll know when we know.

Not a versteeg fan. I like him on that Hawks team because he fits well, but I wouldnt give up anything great to get him. DTR might not agree with that, but I think he would be a flop of a pickup in a lot of other places.

Versteeg and Byfuglien are probably leaving, but not this year. They can replace that with Beach or Skille or whoever by trade.
PLus, their values will be at max after a stanley cup ( Latest Sens/Hawks Rumour: solid or smokescreen? - Page 13 159628 ?)

I dont think Byuglien will be going anywhere. Def a guy who can play a lot of different roles and very well liked on that team. Skille is nothing special at all, bigger flop then Lee in the first round. Love Beach though, if he puts it all together he could be that teams best player in 5 or 6 years.
