Latest Sens/Hawks Rumour: solid or smokescreen?

Not a versteeg fan. I like him on that Hawks team because he fits well, but I wouldnt give up anything great to get him. DTR might not agree with that, but I think he would be a flop of a pickup in a lot of other places.

Versteeg and Byfuglien are probably leaving, but not this year. They can replace that with Beach or Skille or whoever by trade.
PLus, their values will be at max after a stanley cup ( ?)

I dont think Byuglien will be going anywhere. Def a guy who can play a lot of different roles and very well liked on that team. Skille is nothing special at all, bigger flop then Lee in the first round. Love Beach though, if he puts it all together he could be that teams best player in 5 or 6 years.

While Huet might be overpaid for a guy who's never won a playoff series - his numbers are excellent right now. You can go real deep with a guy that's making the right saves at the right time.

They might not have the choice but to trade Byfuglien.
Let's assume Toews and Kane make 6 MIllion each + Hossa at 5.2, Sharp at 4. That's roughly 21 Million in 4 forwards. You add the 4 Defensemen at roughly 19 MIllion, so you have 40 MIllion for 8 players.
How on Earth will they find 12 other players for 16 MIllion? That's why the 3 million guys will likely be gone.

I think it's pretty evident that 2 of Byfuglien, Bolland and Versteeg leave at year's end

Skille is nothing special, but he's probably the best option salary-wise.

I'm not even gonna talk about Huet for their sake.

So, here's next year's roster for Chicago and cap hit with only signed players and adding Kane ($6.5M), Toews ($6.5M) and Keith ($6M)...

I think that's a little generous for Toews, and Keith's might be lower if it's a really long-term deal.

Still, they need to add 5 or 6 more players to the roster, plus have some money to spare in the case of injuries.

I was just going with the rumoured $19M cap hit combined for those three. But, even if you drop it a few million, it ain't helping much... and they have to sign 5-6 more guys, including a goalie...

Pretty easy to figure out, there's one 1 D and 2F at 3 million each that are gonna leave garanteed there, at least.

Ok, so let's take off Barker, Sopel and Versteeg as their names have been the ones tossed around... that leaves 13 signed and $3M to sign 7 or 8 more guys.

They will waive Huet if they can't trade him, then probably sign some dude for 1 Million.

Moving Huet would be good and help them a lot.

trading campbell seems like the only solution.

and if they want to make it work they have to do it this season and get guys that will be UFA...

With who to come in? Truth be told Huet has been pretty solid for them as of late but if they cant add a legit number 1 guy, Huet is their best option.

I honestly think, in a year or two, their starting goaltender will be Brian Elliott.
