Because Picard cant play his off side. Picard is the 7th D man in Ottawa, not Carkner.

Carkner will be used on the PK I assume and paired with Campoli. Being a RH shot will keep him in the lineup and probably improve Campoli's game playing that stay at home style. Picard, not so much.

That's the way Senschirp has it laid out. He adds that Murray is trying to move Picard.

No one wants him though, that's a pretty big sticking point.

Meh, we'll see what happens when teams get off to a slow start and are lacking a threat from the point. Teams just dont give up young assets or draft picks anymore.

According to Mendes Picard will be a healthy scratch on Saturday against the Rangers and Carkner will be paired with Campoli. Myself, i'm pretty happy and looking forward to how they perform together. Carkner's a pretty big dude and is punishing. Love the extra grit and sand paper!

Absolutely! Like I said already, if Carkner can play 10-15 mins a night with some PK mins and learn to be that kind of guy, The Sens will have a gem they never expected to use. Just one less thing they have to go out and look for. Carkner will take w/e role is given to him, huge plus there too.

Not really a big deal to me who is the 6th D man as long as the team plays well I'm happy.

It is to me, haha. Carkner is going to have to show he can play to stay up here otherwise just give Lee the mins to develope. Carkner isnt here to watch.

Def gonna be a PK in my mind. People should start to realize he is a huge body who will block shots here and take the body. If he plays within himself then awesome, we have our 6th D man at league min who can toss just about anyone in the league.

Having Carkner up also helps out Neil quite a bit. I'm not thrilled about having a defenceman be a fighter as well (5 minutes in the box for a d-man is a lot longer than 5 minutes for a forward) but I guess in a 5-6th d-man role I'm okay with it.

I think a lot of Carkner's being with the big club is attributed to how Brian Burke put together the Leafs. Ottawa needs that extra physical player to protect the front of the net but more importantly to protect the star players on the ice.

Always nice to see someone make the team who no one thought would. Guess Carkner is the Rudy of this team, the underdog that no one though could do it!

If Carkner can be a regular presence as a 6th D man and our resident tough guy then that should help Neil out immensly. If Neil can't get 8 to 12 goals under those circumstances then he's definitely highly over paid. I hope Clouston gives Neil a shot on the PP again and Neil shows he's worthy of being that net presence we badly need on the PP.

Good call. That seems to be the way it will be on opening night.

What does keeping this roster as is do to our cap situation? Where are we at?

Here it is with the 23-man roster we have now:

Summary: We're $1.3M under without the bonus cushion. With the bonus cushion we're $1.7M under.

Awesome thanks Shabbs

As long as we're not under only via the bc, I'm satisfied.

looks like we are doing pretty good here, not the 2 M cushion that Dr. Poo suggested we have, but well, it's better than being over like Boston and Toronto.

I suspect that our cap situation will improve once Winchester returns to the lineup. I doubt they keep a 23 man roster at that point right?

If we do drop down to a 22 or 21-man roster... we'll have the cap space that BM wants.

Who goes though?

That is the question.

I don't believe they will, should trim down to the 22, but who are the odd people out, Picard and Donovan?

"Defenceman Brian Lee, a former first-round pick (ninth overall in 2005), was anything but a happy camper when he learned Tuesday he'd been sent back to the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators. But Clouston said his stay on the farm will be anything but permanent. "We know he's not going to be down there for a long time," said Clouston. "Right now, this is for the betterment of the organization and maybe things change. But it's also good for him. He can't see that right now, but it does him no good if he's in and out of the lineup here right now as opposed to playing a huge role down there. He's still a young guy. He's going to be a very good defenceman in the NHL and sooner rather than later."
