Was reading an article on TSN about the Leafs and Habs still looking for captains and this line made me actually laugh out loud...

Source: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=293073

"Beauchemin is another player who possesses all the truculence, belligerence and pugnaciousness that will likely define the Leafs this season."

Too funny... and too true.

The article does raise some interesting questions - who will lead these teams? Gomez and Gionta do seem to be good options for the Habs... and I can see Lapierre also garnering some attention. As for the Leafs... I think it has to be Kaberle or Beauchemin... but has anyone really shown that they deserve it?

Dare they start the seasons sans captain?

In the words of DTR... discuss...

Schenn is absolutely the captain of the future for them. Maybe they pull a Chicago.

I think it should be Jason Blake. Few have been Dung on as much as him and he just kept working.

I think there's no doubt that Schenn will be wearing the "C" in the near future for the Leafs... but is it too soon to lop that on him? Can forwards handle it better than emerging d-men?

I agree with the previous post for Jason Blake. Few have overcome what this guy has, and despite the overwhelming dumping on that this guy has taken, he keeps plugging. Great Captain material

They forget "fiscal incompetence" in that list of descriptors.

How is it possible that this organization is spending that much money to ice THAT roster???

So true.

I expected Burke to come in, and legitimately try to rebuild from the net out (the right way, through the draft, not overspending on FAs), get frustrated and start selling the farm for a chance at a playoff run. Then in usual Burke style, exit stage left, with the organization in shambles.

Actually, credit where credit is due...that expression is Dr. Rooney's exclusive property.

When you spend more money than the United States spent on their stimulus package on just your defensemen, it's hard to not run up a bit of a tab.

Also, overpaying, by a wide margin, for a young player doesn't help either.

So, the Leafs are going with three alternate captains to start the season, no captain.

Kaberle, Beauchemin and Komisarek.

Apparently, one of them will be appointed the Captain by November.

Don't make me dig up all your 8-million line posts ending with ... "I leave this for the GMHockey community to discuss...."
