He really rolled the dice on Leclaire though, I hope that works for all parties involved. Ahhhhh!

Let there be no mistake about it: Murray has done some very good things here.

How he resolves this Heatley situation, however, will be his legacy in Ottawa.

Heatley was Muckler's legacy. Murray's legacy will be based on his draft picks, and the Bingo turn around, IMO. Your idea of a legacy is too short sighted.

you said it well, Muckler brought in Heatley, not Murray, he was coaching at that time and had little to say about the personnel I imagine that was brought in to play. Murray is a shrewd drafter rather than dealer, the Corvo/Eaves for Stillman/Commodore is proof of that, lost those players and both returns in that deal are gone to greener pastures. keep drafting well Murray and build from within.

so Ek is saying that the Sharks are going to be pulling a major deal this weekend in attempt to get back into the Heatley sweepstakes. Sigh, is this what it has come to now? ugh, even Sens Chirp is saying all the interest has pretty much dried up (if there indeed was any) and the only way Murray does anything is if the offer is too good to be true.

I think the Sharks have to swing a big deal regardless of anything else. They promised a shakeup, they stripped their Captain and Alternates of their letters. That's still not enough, especially if you consider that they are $300K over the cap with two more forwards needed to make 4 lines. Assuming league-minimum for those two players, they need to move approximately $1.3M to get at the cap, and another $1.5M for injury reserves.

While $2.8M isn't exactly big, the only forwards making that much or more are Cheechoo ($3M), Clowe ($3.625M), Michalek ($4.333M)Marleau ($6.3M) and Thornton ($7.2M). Nobody is going to want Cheechoo's cap hit without getting a prospect as well. So any deal involving a forward would be fairly big.

If they move a D-man, who could that be? Not Boyle, as he was their best player. Bot Blake, since they *just* signed him. That leaves just Erhoff and Vlasic with large-enough contracts to clear enough cap room. Hmm, not exactly big moves. Neither one could be considered a "shake up".

That leaves moving Nabokov, which would definitely count as a big deal.

Nabokov eh, very interesting though, but any deal involving Nabokov you must think another goalie would be returned to SJ, unless they are confident in their back up running the show or have an amazing prospect coming through the system?

Their back isn't ready (not for a team that just won the President's Trophy) and they have not amazing prospects. They'd definitely need a #1 coming back, but there aren't any available that can still play (I'm thinking Theodore here) or will save that $2.8M in cap space (here I'm thinking Giguere).

Of course I can't, off the top of my head, think of all 30 teams' goaltending situations, so there could be someone out there worth a look. Maybe Bryzgalov or Toskala? Vokoun?

Nah, the more I think about it, the more it *has to be* a forward.

either that or they make their deal, free up some cap space and try to sign a guy like Manny Fernandez? another out there possibility maybe? you are right though, # 1 goalie's are not readily available at this point. Giggy would be a better idea than Theodore since his cap hit vs ability is just not appealing at all.

I just thought I would throw this out there:

Heatley will not be traded before opening night. Be prepared for Heater scoring a couple beauties in the Sens Home Opener against the NYI's.

I will be there, and I will start the Heater chant! Laughing3

Look what happened to CLG this year, and EDM the year before that: towards the end of the season, they actually had to ice teams with less than 20 players. Those injury expenses can really add up.

And don't forget about Bobby Ryan last year with Anaheim. The only reason he was down in the AHL at the start of last year was Cap space. Once they could fit his salary on the books, he was up with the big club.

Rooney is spot on again.

Thank you, sir -- although you may be unhappy to hear that while I'm mentally prepared for Heatley to return to the Senators, I (unlike you) still think the odds favour him getting traded before the season starts.

It will take a major PR overhaul of epic proportions to fix this situation--within the organization, in the locker room, and with the fans. Given Heatley's silence and reticence, I'm not sure it's coming. Moreover, all GMs, BM included, tend to leave things to the last minute. Mez got traded on a sleepy Sunday or Monday night late in August, I believe, when there was little ahead of time to prepare us for that eventuality or to tip is off. I still think there's a good chance something similar happens here with Heatley.

Hey man, to each their own. One question though, how the heck do you remember stuff like the Meszaros trade being on a lazy Sunday. Kudos to you again. :___:

Trust me, I am prepared to eat some humble pie should Heatley get traded before opening night.

The PR campaign has already started of sorts as players as of 2 weeks ago have started to welcome him back to the team. Neil had a softer tone to his last public statement as did someone else, but the latters name escapes me right now.

However, Heatley will play for the Sens this season and I expect nothing more than for you to change your avatar to a smiling picture of Heatley for the whole season. Deal? Or are you chicken? Laughing3

Ahhhhh!
well since we are back on the heatley subject an article on hockey30

http://www.hockey30.com/magazine/heatley-inquiete-yzerman/
states that yzerman is worried heatley might bring the wrong attitude to camp therefore he is meeting with healtey's agents this coming week.
could danny boy's days on the hockey canada's roster be numbered? is heat gonna eat a truck load of get-your-act-together? one can only hope...
whatever happens i expect we'll hear from heatley personaly on the subject within the next 2 weeks...

Wow - lots to comment on.

This may have been what Murray was waiting for all along.

Up until now, Murray was in a bit of a weak position; Heatley could dictate where he wanted to go. Now, however, the threat of not being on the Olympic team has been raised, and not by Murray. This is important, because there is now no way that the agents can claim that Murray was playing games.

Heatley now finds himself in a spot that essentially forces him to cede power to Murray. The next trade that is offered up to Heatley almost absolutely must be accepted by Heatley. If he invokes the NMC, then the media frenzy will reach a fever that will force Yzerman to rethink having Heatley on the Olympic team.

Now it will essentially come down to whether Murray can wangle a deal that actually makes the Senators a better team, rather than simply dumping a malcontent.

Of course, this is all null and void if Heatley is happy to sit and watch the Olympics from his Kelowna cottage. But I doubt that's the case.

The only way Heatley is not on the Olympic team is if he is injured or he sits out and misses the first part of the season, other than that and he is a lock.

My source is as good as all yours have been this whole time. Not even worth talking about.

But if you really need a source, this guy told me:

That should clear some things up.

LOL. OK. I think the problem was the pic was to big. How do I scale down a picture that I have saved?

Or maybe I could just look for another pic?

when you attempt to upload the picture, you can resize the image to many different sizes, from the biggest at 800 px width to 320 as the smallest, that is if you take advantage of the upload feature here on forum motion.

OK, I will try to figure out what this means. Thanks. Much appreciated.

By now, I assume all the rumours about Manny Fernandez are absolutely true. He's an arsehole who's all about himself. If it's not true, I apologize, but he's a top rate goaltender out of a job in late August...
