First of all, let me say that I have no desire to be considered as the source of a rumour. Should it come true, I also have no desire to be considered as a person with inside info... I simply fell into this piece of information.

I have it on very good authority (God I feel like Eklund after that sentence...) that a Heatley for Marleau for Cammalleri trade is all but completed. This comes to me 2nd hand, but it originates from a hockey legend currently working in the Canadiens organization. The direct source for me simply wouldn't lie to me about any of this, so the only issue of factuality is whether or not the hockey legend was Diddle-ing with the minds of the group my source was in... I can't say for sure and neither could the person I was talking to, but he didn't seem to have any reason to doubt the legend.

Apparently Marleau really would waive to go to MTL and apparently the Canadiens really are stupid enough to trade a player they just signed... Obviously there would be more pieces involved to balance things out, but that was the jist of it.

Personally I hate the idea. The point of getting rid of Heatley is to find some cap flexibility and avoid losing our Volchies and Folignos in the coming years. I'm also not a fan of Cammalleri's... If it happens, it happens; but I won't be a fan of it.

*Sigh* There better be a whole hell of a lot more coming our way other than that overrated bum Cammalleri (who manages to join an exclusive club of players who are overrated and overpaid).

No kidding. That is a serious downgrade. No prospects, nothing? I just cannot believe we aren't being fully stocked with prospects in order to even consider this filth.

If Murray does this, he should be fired on the spot. Cammelleri is a nice scorer, but not even close to the sniper Heatley is. I'll go on record right now saying the Cammelleri won't hit the goal or point totals he hit with Iggy and Co. last season with the Habs this year.

This trade is wrong on so many levels. Essentially SJ gets Heatley for a guy they just stripped the captaincy of. L-A-M-E. They trade the worst player in the deal and get the best?
Comfort

dude, no worries! this isn't going to happen... there is no way cam is leaving montreal...

they're trying to make him their star there is no way they trade him for a guy that has a year remaining...

they also don't do this kind of stuff just for anyone. i tell you he's already walked on water in montreal. they think they might have a 90 point guy... keep thinking it guys Vertigo

sorry but someone was pulling your leg.
i would love to see it happen though(counting we'd get more then cam) cuz i would love to hear all the negative stuff on the radio and the streets... montreal is a funny hockey market to live in...

I hope you're right FingersCrossed I agree with Hem's statement that Murray should be fired on the spot if this deal is consummated.

All you have to do is buy the team, approve the deal, and fire your GM.

Actually I'm a Murray supporter. I believe he's made mostly the right moves and I'm relatively happy with his performance. That being said, he must handle this Heatley situation the right way. If he screws this up, I'm off the bandwagon.

We all should be pretty happy with Murray. He didn't panic with the Heatley situation. He's drafted what will become our next defence core. He signed Kovalev, when he was in high demand to boot, he got us the franchise goalie (hopefully...and I mean Lehner).

He really rolled the dice on Leclaire though, I hope that works for all parties involved. Ahhhhh!

I don't think he'll lose any sleep over that.

Let there be no mistake about it: Murray has done some very good things here.

How he resolves this Heatley situation, however, will be his legacy in Ottawa.

Heatley was Muckler's legacy. Murray's legacy will be based on his draft picks, and the Bingo turn around, IMO. Your idea of a legacy is too short sighted.

Not trying to detract from Murray, but Kovalev signed here because of Ottawa's proximity to Montreal, where his wife and kids will remain. Still a nice signing, particularly if Kovalev gets scores at a PPG rate.

I agree that those things should be their legacies, but I don't think they will be. I believe people focus more on the recent and the on the negative when it comes to celebrities/people in the media, and thus choosing Redden over Chara will be Muckler's legacy, and if this Heatley situation turns out negatively for the Sens, this will become Murray's legacy.

you said it well, Muckler brought in Heatley, not Murray, he was coaching at that time and had little to say about the personnel I imagine that was brought in to play. Murray is a shrewd drafter rather than dealer, the Corvo/Eaves for Stillman/Commodore is proof of that, lost those players and both returns in that deal are gone to greener pastures. keep drafting well Murray and build from within.

so Ek is saying that the Sharks are going to be pulling a major deal this weekend in attempt to get back into the Heatley sweepstakes. Sigh, is this what it has come to now? ugh, even Sens Chirp is saying all the interest has pretty much dried up (if there indeed was any) and the only way Murray does anything is if the offer is too good to be true.

I think the Sharks have to swing a big deal regardless of anything else. They promised a shakeup, they stripped their Captain and Alternates of their letters. That's still not enough, especially if you consider that they are $300K over the cap with two more forwards needed to make 4 lines. Assuming league-minimum for those two players, they need to move approximately $1.3M to get at the cap, and another $1.5M for injury reserves.

While $2.8M isn't exactly big, the only forwards making that much or more are Cheechoo ($3M), Clowe ($3.625M), Michalek ($4.333M)Marleau ($6.3M) and Thornton ($7.2M). Nobody is going to want Cheechoo's cap hit without getting a prospect as well. So any deal involving a forward would be fairly big.

If they move a D-man, who could that be? Not Boyle, as he was their best player. Bot Blake, since they *just* signed him. That leaves just Erhoff and Vlasic with large-enough contracts to clear enough cap room. Hmm, not exactly big moves. Neither one could be considered a "shake up".

That leaves moving Nabokov, which would definitely count as a big deal.
