http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/sports/story/lightning-intend-to-buyout-vinny-prospals-contract/

The Lightning on Tuesday informed left wing Vinny Prospal that the team is buying out the remaining three years of his contract.
Tampa Bay general manager Brian Lawton sent a letter of intent to Prospal and his agent informing them of the decision. Prospal has 24 hours to decide whether to accept the buyout or request to be placed on waivers.
Prospal, who was reacquired from the Philadelphia Flyers before last season, signed a four-year contract worth $14 million last June. He has $10.5 million remaining on his deal.
Under the terms of the buyout, Prospal would receive two-thirds the remaining value of the contract spread out over twice the length of the remaining contract, which equates to $7 million over six years. By buying out the contract, the Lightning will take a salary cap hit of $1.167 for the next six seasons.
“After fully evaluating our roster and our position in the salary cap world, we arrived at the decision to buy out Vaclav Prospal from his contract,’’ Lawton said. “We appreciate Vinny’s service to the Lightning, but in the best interest of the team, we believe a difficult decision needed to be made in this case and we are going to move ahead without him. We wish Vinny all the best.’’
After enjoying a career-year in 2007-08 by scoring 33 goals between Tampa Bay and Philadelphia to go with 71 points, Prospal had 19 goals and 45 points last season.

Good to see the Lightning are back to their usual ways. I thought they had straightened things out. Ahhhhh!

Maybe he can come back to Ottawa on a cheap contract? Sarcasm

By all means. 1 year, 2 million. I always liked this slippery little monkey. Not 4.5 million like obviously, but I like him.

Surely they must have tried to move him...? A buy out? Wow. I guess $3.5M/year was too rich for everyone else.

I just don't understand this move. 19 goals and 45 points on the second worst team in the league, and they just can't wait to buy him out?

How the Diddle does this make sense? Are they swimming in scorers and point producers? Is that why?

Assuming we trade Heatley and find ourselves with some cap space for a LW, why wouldn't we sign this guy for like $2 million or less?

Word is they are close to signing Sykora, who will take over for Prospal

I guess it's now or never since he'll be 35 next year. They've gotta be really hurting for cash.

Oh it was 3.5? For a 20 goal guy? Who lives and breathes Lightning hockey? I don't understand.

Let's get him (for 1.5 million on a 1 year). Sarcasm

That does it. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Announcement! SpezDispenser taking over for the 'tards in TB. Knows NOTHING of law, but can damn well run a team better.

More to come...

He's a LW too. A position we are about to be potentially extremely thin on very soon.

Yeah he had three more years @ a cap hit of $3.5M/year.
