Sources say Chris Neil turned down the Ottawa Senators' offer of $1.7-million per year and will likely go to free agency unless there are further developments tonight.

Neil, 30, tied a career-low with ten points and set a career-low with a minus-13 in 60 games last season.

The 6-foot-1, 214-pound right winger can still mix it up, however, getting in 14 fights last season; his highest total since 2002-2003.

I think that stat says it all. 14 fights, his highest total in 6 years. In his contract season he responded with his career-low outut of 10 points, but upped his fight total. It's one thing having a guy who fights a lot and doesn't add anything offensively making the league minimum, but when he's asking for 4 times that much, time to move on.

I wish him the best, and I really *do* hope that Toronto pays him $2M per season. I really, really want that to happen. In fact, give him $2.5M -- he'll protect Kadri for you.

Nice offer we made. He can do better than that? Fine, good luck! I won't say I won't miss you, you were a great character, but that's too much.

I agree! Great guy, absolutely stupendous really...just not an NHL calibre hockey player anymore. HE should have taken teh money and ran, but I'm a little relieved.

Anyone know how far apart they were? I'm guessing he wanted 2? He can be replaced I just worry about a lack of veteren presence in the bottom six...

Yep, pretty relieved we didn't sink 2 million into Chris Neil. Again, I agree with you, I like him, but that's too much. We have a lot of pluggers and little skill right now.

I wanna buy some skill. Ahhhhh!

Me too! I'm heading down Friday morning to watch the 3 on 3 games. Apparently Weirococh and Petterson are the creme of the crop. Petersson has the potential to be something real special, a late bloomer of sorts, could easily pass Zubov as teh top forward prospect.

Imagine 5 years from now, we will be half the Swedish junior team from the last two years. And that's not a bad thing.
