Oh, Colorado I would want the 1st, no doubt. SJ not so much.

None of those deals look especially good and the San Jose deal isn't even plausible relative to the cap.

Ya, well if I have learned anything from the NHL since the lockout it's that teams worry about the cap during training camp and not before.

Late midnight, I had been informed that the Minnesota Wild have put forth an offer that may be too good to pass. The Wild are the third team to offer a package for the servcies of Dany Heatley. The first two were the Oilers and the Sharks. Bryan Murray is trying to get a Top 4 Defenseman and a Second Line Centre out of it. Ther two positiosn are the Sens' most glaring needs currently. So, do you want know the offer? Drum roll pleaase! Ba dum ba!

Wild acquire: Dany Heatley
Senators acquire: Marek Zidlicky, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, 5th round pick in 2010

So, just to preview the previous two offers made for Heatley...

Oilers acquire: Dany Heatley, Jason Smith
Senators acquire: Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner, Denis Grebeshkov

Sharks acquire: Dany Heatley, Chris Kelly
Senators acquire: Joe Pavelski, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, 3rd round pick
"

Just for fun ( assuming thee are remotely true) what would YOU choose if you were Murray...err...Melynk (as he's probably making the call on this one)

my personal choice would be for the Edmonton deal.....but we all know how that went!

Thoughts?

I don't want to be cynical, but after the Auld/Russell rumour, and after reading other comments on that site, I have a hard time putting much stock in the info put forth on SensBuzz.

Anyway, not a great return at all, especially since we get jack in terms of picks / prospects, but at least Zidlicky would come off the books next year if he doesn't figure in long term.

That means that this potential deal has at least the benefit of cap flexibility looking forward, which the EDM deal (with the Penner anchor) did not. Personally, tho', PMB is not a player I'm really interested in.

Nobody knows anything about the Sens organization. Its so abundantly clear that I'm shocked at my own willingness to read bs rumours of H-buzz or S-buzz or S-chirp or any other site that claims to have info they undoubtedly do not...

Since the Jason Williams saga of last summer, no one has predicted anything. Sure some random people on HF or here get a nugget occasionally a mere hour or two prior to it becoming public knowledge, but the reality is that the details of negotiations are not going to come spilling into the public.

No one saw the Kovalev signing coming and no one predicted the Oilers deal. Its been the same since the gag order came down and somehow we all keep fooling ourselves into believing we're privy to anything other than simple speculation.

(ROFL @ the Auld for Russell rumour followed by Auld for 6th Laughing3)

How would you guys like a Horton and Weiss for Heatley and Smith deal?

Bouchard doesn't even play center so if Murray was looking for a 2nd line center then that wouldn't work.

The Oilers deal would be okay but we would be taking back a lot of cap when you consider Grebeshkov still needs to be signed.

The Sharks deal is probably the best one for us but I can't see the Sharks pulling the trigger on that one considering their cap situation.

Can we throw in a draft pick Smile Seriously though I'd love Horton in a Sens Uni for sure.

I'd like it but would Heatley waive his NMC to go to Florida?

I don't think the Panthers would do that anyway.

Could work for both sides. I bet we'd have to add Kelly and take a pick back or something.

That trade = championship season in Ottawa.

And I'm not even sure that's a joke to be honest. That trade could easily put the Sens over the top.

Kovalev - Spezza - Horton (~250 points)(~110 goals)
Alfredsson - Weiss - Foligno (~175 points)(~70 goals)
Fisher - Kelly - Shannon/Regin (~120 points)(~50 goals)
Neil - Winchester - Ruutu (~50 points)(~20 goals)

Extras: Donovan, Bass, Shannon/Regin

That's something close to 250 goals from just your forwards. And I don't think it's a stretch to imagine Kuba, Lee, Campoli, Phillips, Picard, Volchenkov and possibly Karlsson pitching in another 40 goals and 150 points.

DO we have enough that will start this year though and be good?

Personally I am content with our current blueline. I am not expecting the team to compete for the Cup next year. We do have a few guys that need to gain some experience back there. If we bring in another guy, he will only impede the development of someone else.

I like both but Murray wouldnt get both. There is no way Florida would give up 2 key forwards for 1. I suspect any deal with Florida would be Heatley for Horton, a pick and prospect.

Ohhhhhhh. I just realized that this SensBuzz rumour is "new". I thought these were the older offers during and around the draft...

If Murray thinks our glaring needs include a Top 4 D, he's outright stupid. For that reason, I call BS on these offers (I don't think Murray is stupid Wink )

Interesting, you should see the discussion over on BattelOfOntario with a Leafs fan and a Sens fan comparing each other's D. Both are probably a little biased, but being a Sens fan I think the Leafs fan is more biased Smile I mean, he's defending Finger, saying it takes time to develop. He's also saying that shaving 40 goals-against should be no problem.

Anyhow, all that to say that our D was bad last season. Bad at moving the puck, and not great at defending either. Sure, we expect a rebound year for Phillips and, to a lesser extent, Volchenkov, but what if that doesn't happen? Will Campoli continue to improve? Will Lee stick around on his own rather than benefit from injuries? If Karlsson cracks the lineup, will he help or hinder?

A lot of questions, for sure.

Exactly.  This is why I don't think Murray's desire for a top 4 d is not that far fetched.  I think he's looking to send Smith along with Heatley (this is already assumed) and wants a top 4 back.  Our D was our weakness last year...so I'm not sure why people are saying it's crazy he'd want to upgrade along with getting another T6F and a prospect.
