Which "hand" did you agree with? Couldn't have been all three.

The basic gist of while Kelly has hands of stone - and discipline could offset any trade of him from the Sens, I still think he might have a very valuable role on this team. Like you said, Alfie doesn't need to be constantly playing 20+ a night. And then, I thought about it more and I think a Kelly - Regin - Shannon line has all the makings of a very skilled, but defence oriented line.

Very, very frustrating breakaways, for the most part. I'd seriously prefer he'd just dump it in and rest up a bit.

I think Kelly is a bit overpaid and underappreciated but his frustrating breakaways always frustrated me.

Do we have a 'faceoff specialist' (so to speak) ?

he went to Columbus, Vermette was a wicked face off guy, not sure who has stepped into that role.

We did, but we traded him for Leclaire. If I recall correctly though, Spezza got better as the season went along in that regard. Kelly is an excellent player for the 3rd line. Above average hockey IQ and decent offensive ability. For $8 million bucks though, I'd prefer a player who suffers from stone hands less often.

Spezza was improving in that area and I believe is now our best faceoff guy. Man that's kinda scarey.

he is really good on NHL 09 in terms of faceoffs, his percentage is over 90% in my dynasty/be a pro mode.

Regin was very good on face offs ... in his first game ... at least in the first couple of periods. He was something like 7 for 7 to start, then ended up with a still very respectable percentage. Overall, I'd have to look it up ...

OK, he finished the year at 53.2%, just behind Spezza's 53.3%. Winchester had the team-best percentage of 56.8% but I don't think he took that many draws, and probably not against the other teams' best face off guys.

Definitely something to work on. Spezza should be getting closer to the 60%, or at least north of 55. Hoepfully Regin continues to work on it and also move his average up.

He's trying to get another couple of *new* teams to get to an even 20, isn't he? He's already been here.

20 teams?

That's quite the accomplishment ... I can see why you'd want to achieve that...

I understand why some people want to keep Kelly but at some point does he get moved for a more skilled player like Regin or Zubov so they can come up and gain experience. Likewise I would prefer to move the money for a younger player and give them the opportunity to further develop....... Burning Car ..........here comes the Kelly faithful

TBH, I think Kelly brings a decent skillset to the table. He's great on the PK and good on faceoffs. I would not, however, be upset if we could get a decent return for him. I agree with Phoenix that we need room for some young players to try their hand at the big show. Kelly for a second rounder or mid-level prospect would clear cap and a roster spot.

Thoughts on Kelly for a second rounder?

I'd do that before you could say Jack Rabbit.

Think a second could happen?

Would you take a third?

I don't really know how the market goes when you're trading a good bottom six for picks.

Could he be the throw in to any Heatley deal to up the ante and remove a longer termed contract. Edmonton was desperate for a player like him last year on their PK. Moving Kelly helps with the cap hit this coming season but also for the next season when Murray has to sign key RFA's.

With so many teams close to the cap, getting a second rounder for Kelly will be difficult. I think it is a fair trade, but it is a buyer's market right now.
