It's a shame though to so many good posters there seem to have moved on....

Or strong-arm other sites with a fan-base of a different team into merging with ours. cool) Sarcasm

The problem then might be juggling all these fan-bases in regards to the "latest topic" list. I know I usually only look at that and don't venture very often into the forums themselves to look for threads. A minor problem, though.

As far as HB goes, it is lamentable. I still go to talk Leafs hockey from time to time, but I've stopped venturing into the main thread or the Sens thread. They have some good writers though. Although I'm not an Eklund fan, he did manage to create a hockey forum that at one point was one of the best, if not the best on the 'net.

I tend to stick to the latest topics list too. Agreed on your take about Eklund. At one point I bought a season ticket. I figured supporting the site that I was hanging out on *that* much was worth it.

The community was great, especially if you could take Ek with a grain of salt (or limit your doses of him). By the end, though, it really degenerated into a lot of troll-confronting and mud-flinging. :fight:

Especially after we got hung out to dry as a fan-base with the very, very slow replacement process for K. Lee, I think it was nice to get a fresh start here. There are, of course, positives and negatives to everything. The negative is that it is a bit too Sens-centric for my tastes, but that's not exactly anyone's fault and there are always other sites to get other hockey-talk in. And the Sens talk here is better than pretty much anywhere else IMO.

One thing that keeps me going back to HB is the life-story that Ek seems to be including more and more in his posts. One especially nice one was when he said, somewhat in passing, that Shania Twain had asked him out many years ago but he had turned her down.

While it is not impossible, one cannot help but wonder if his real name is James Gatz. :^^^^:

Man, I thought Fighting Montagoose was as high as you could get without being a Co-Founder.

Now I find out there's a Mr. Montagoose title. ⭕

You'll get there soon enough. I figure by the end of July with all the chatter the draft/FA period should generate.

I think 10,000 posts should earn a custom title.

Something to justify the inordinate amount of time necessary to get there. :^^^^:

A mod over at HF's at something like 50,000. Ahhhhh!

Well, granted his post-per-day rate of 20 is less than half your rate of 50.
Razz

Of course, his is over a course of 7+ years, and yours is over 3-odd days. Wink

Oh god, I can't keep up this frantic pace. Even on my old account I averaged about 8 a day. I typically go through spurts though like most people. I have to make up for the next two weeks now though...

Zoolie and Asq are trying to get their post count up...perhaps to catch Prager. Wink

And now, back to Wings talk. From The National Post via SportsTicker:

Chelios won't retire, wants to play for Eastern Conference team
Noah Love, National Post, June 24, 2009

He won’t be a Detroit Red Wing, but Chris Chelios still wants to play.

The 47-year-old defenceman said Wednesday he has no hard feelings about Detroit’s decision not to sign him for next season.

Chelios says he wants to sign with another NHL team. Chelios says his family won’t move from the Detroit area, where he owns a bar.

Chelios says he would prefer to play with a team in the Eastern Conference. He says the travel would be easier than it would be in the far-flung Western Conference.
He says he and his agent will start contacting teams July 1, when he officially becomes a free agent.

Chelios won two Stanley Cups with the Red Wings after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1998-1999 season.

Hm...wonder if a return to Montreal is on Cheli's mind?

Who would offer Cheli a contract? Perhaps MTL like DTR suggested as a throw back to the old days and maybe to help keep the "young'uns" in line... but I can't really see anyone giving him a serious offer with all the cap concerns and his age etc...

He's limiting it to the East? I would think the Kings would be a decent option. Mentor some of the kids there.

How about NJ? Its not exactly like their blueline is overflowing...

Just look for teams with a mediocre crop of D-men and those are you options.
