Shrug

After all the (well deserved) trashing of Eklund by GMHockey Members, has he suddenly been forgiven for his transgressions?

Maybe we should talk about 'a Hossa deal' if and when it gets done..? Unless this forum is turning into 'HBLite'.

"HBLite" Only in the sense that most (well several at least) of the posters here are recovered HB addicts.

Eklund is a gearbox. Any man who posts a thread touting Richard Park as a "good young player" cannot be taken seriously.

He's had some pretty funny ones. :^^^^:

There's a thread over there devoted to it.

Apparently the refs have the ability to track post-count. Ron Guillet, one of the better refs and a great Leafs poster at HB let me know.

It's in the misc. lounge, it's called "(Frank) Ups."

Unfortunately, someone seems to have deleted quite a few of the posts.

Censorship at HB? No waaaay!

I'll have a look, thanks!

Nice...16,000 is ALOT. Almost double what SpezDispenser has here. YIKES.

:^^^^: Yeah. Granted it was in two+ years, not one.

I used to get my whole hockey fix there, not just Sens talk + some brief mention of other events in the league. Used to be a great place to talk hockey, but most of the old regulars seem to have moved on. Now it's mostly trolls and people mocking Ek. Thumbs Down

Yeah...it was quite active for a time when I was there. We'll get there here though. It's already pretty active here as it is, considering the amount of users.

Oh, as far as Sens-talk goes, this has probably superceded anything we had at HB. Even when we were regularly filling up K.Lee blogs with 2000+ comments, I don't think we ever had the size of the community that we have here.

It's hard to cultivate different fan-bases though. If you're a fan of a non-Sens team, then despite our best intentions, you're probably not going to find a lot of knowledgeable talk on your team.

IMO, if we're ever going to get this site up and running as more than 90% Sens-talk, we needed to find a way to bring a community of fans of another team over. Maybe during that period when all the Canuck fans at HB were in limbo, we could have advertised this site as an option. Although, as I recall, there were a lot of trolls in that group. :??:

Yeah, I still see a couple of them over there. You're right though that hoping to gain followers of other teams, one by one is probably not practical.

No kidding. I don't blame guys like Aetherial (great Leafs poster) or KaBoominator for not sticking around. There's no real Leaf or Bruin discussion to be had.

If you get a community, you get that discussion going and then as a result you attract more fans of that fan-base.

I'm sure there will be other times when a team's fans are left in limbo on HB. We'll have to keep an eye out, and swoop in and steal them all Wink

It's a shame though to so many good posters there seem to have moved on....

Or strong-arm other sites with a fan-base of a different team into merging with ours. cool) Sarcasm

The problem then might be juggling all these fan-bases in regards to the "latest topic" list. I know I usually only look at that and don't venture very often into the forums themselves to look for threads. A minor problem, though.

As far as HB goes, it is lamentable. I still go to talk Leafs hockey from time to time, but I've stopped venturing into the main thread or the Sens thread. They have some good writers though. Although I'm not an Eklund fan, he did manage to create a hockey forum that at one point was one of the best, if not the best on the 'net.

I tend to stick to the latest topics list too. Agreed on your take about Eklund. At one point I bought a season ticket. I figured supporting the site that I was hanging out on *that* much was worth it.

The community was great, especially if you could take Ek with a grain of salt (or limit your doses of him). By the end, though, it really degenerated into a lot of troll-confronting and mud-flinging. :fight:

Especially after we got hung out to dry as a fan-base with the very, very slow replacement process for K. Lee, I think it was nice to get a fresh start here. There are, of course, positives and negatives to everything. The negative is that it is a bit too Sens-centric for my tastes, but that's not exactly anyone's fault and there are always other sites to get other hockey-talk in. And the Sens talk here is better than pretty much anywhere else IMO.

One thing that keeps me going back to HB is the life-story that Ek seems to be including more and more in his posts. One especially nice one was when he said, somewhat in passing, that Shania Twain had asked him out many years ago but he had turned her down.

While it is not impossible, one cannot help but wonder if his real name is James Gatz. :^^^^:
