The only thing I don't understand about what people are saying is that now this makes Vermette expendable... Come again??? Vermette is outplaying Comrie this year, is being payed less, plays shorthanded, and is actually good at faceoffs (Comrie is a stunning 41%). Did I also mention that Vermette is younger, gives the puck away less and has twice as many hits! Personally, I'd rather have Vermette than Comrie.

Hopefully we keep both of them, and Vermette is finally given someone to play with. If we had to get rid of somebody, I'd want it to be Kelly. I like the guy and everything, but he does not deserve to be on an offensive line.

I believe we will re-sign Comrie, probably 3-4 years in the 3.2 - 3.7 million range, although hopefully for less, because if he gets that, Vermette will command about the same, if not more. But at least this means we SHOULD have some solid secondary scoring next year.

I think Comrie up the middle makes a lot of people expendable honestly. Murray def has something else planned.

Two first rounders, albeit the SJ pick is likely going to be a 25-30th selection, would be nice, so I just hope Murray can land us another one or more, preferably higher than the SJ one would have gotten us.

This team is not going for the cup like it was last year, things are not even close to the same as last year. The Sens and Melnyk are not going to be paying for 8 Dmen for the rest of the year, nor will they be paying for 14 forwards up front.

The player Murray wants in a late 1st rounder, he can probably get with our 2nd as well. Who would people rather have, Wiercoich or McCullum? Murray will pick his guy with the 2nd rounder, and if he cant, he will move up to do it like he did last year with Karlsson.

Markstrom. Wink

Vermette has played 16 more games on a better team. I sure hope his point total and hits would be better. Comrie is a career 2 points in 3 games guy; Vermette is under 1 point in 2 games. I can't disagree about face offs. Vermette will fetch us more than Kelly, and save us a bit more in cap space. But I wouldn't mind if Kelly was moved either.

I'll have to agree with N4L. There is now 9 Dman on the team wanting to play. I suspect that Kuba and Schubert are the likely candiates to be moved. Up front even with McAmmond gone there is still to many. I suspect either Kelly or Vermette is out the door.

I wouldnt take Markstrom over Wiercoich, not a chance. Point being, we may have just gotten a 40-50 point D man for a 1st round pick that might not materialize into anything. That SJ has a lot less value than people think, IMO.

I still think we will have an extra 1st rounder when all is said and done before the draft.

Moving Kelly frees up money that is signed for a longer term than Vermette. I rather get rid of the slighly smaller longer term contract

True. Ideally I'd love to see Vermette playing 2nd line centre. The guy is that good at face offs. Maybe play flank him with Mini-Mike and Shannon. Small line, but who could catch them? Or move Fisher to 1st line wing and Alfie to 2nd with Vermette and Comrie. Or ....

Bottom line is, as N4L initially pointed out, the math says there will be more moves. 2D and at least 1F will be either sitting in the pressbox or will be moved. In the meantime, we've improved our defense (Campoli is better than Picard, Bell, Lee) and scoring depth (Comrie pointwise, over his career, Comrie is better than anyone els but the top 3). Plus we have a PP QB.

By the way, everyone keeps saying that Kuba has a NTC. I thought it was established way back when that he never waived to come to Ottawa, and he does not have a NTC.

Edit: My mistake, he has a NTC, just read it in a recent Garrioch article.

Im pretty sure that he does. I don't have any links, but im almost positive that i read in one of the papers than Kuba wasn't thinking about waiving his NTC. (im one of those relics that enjoys paper papers)

Oh and, BSG is on in 5 minutes! whoohoo

BSG on the PVR. After last week's Mother of All Retcons episode I can't even look forward to it anymore. Maybe Dollhouse will be a little better than last week.

Oh, here's the link to Garrioch's article:

he does and he does have to waive it again but from what i read online he hasnt been asked yet and is just focusing on playing and letting his agent deal with everything

I've seen it on TSN that he has not been approached to waive it but it was mentioned that he wanted to be in Ottawa to help them succeed. I suspect that will change if the team is out of the playoffs come deadline day or if he has the opportunity to go to a playoff team. I don't think he would say no to certain teams. Hopefully he doesn't pull a Redden and stick to his guns.

Comrie has always been a top two line guy, which is not something Vermette has been given. Comrie's linemates have always been much better than Vermette's. Vermette has turned his season around, is putting up better numbers (18pts in the last 21 games). Yes he could fetch us more than Kelly, but that's not a good reason to trade him. Why would you trade away someone who wants to be here, competes every game, is not signed on for much money???

Vermette has never been given any respect. He plays on a line with Kelly and Ruutu for goodness sakes. Spezza wouldn't be able to do anything either!!!

What about playing Mini-Mike in Alfie's place?

I'd rather keep Vermette ver Kelly, but let's call a spade a spade. Vermette has been given chance after chance to play on the top-two lines. Most recently a string of 6 games on the top line where he got something like 1 assist. That is why he is now on the third line with Kelly and Ruutu. His 18 points in 21 games still doesn't bring his season average to 1/2 point per game. Befoer the last 21 games he had 8 points in 36 games.

He's played there before. Like I said earlier, he's on of the few guys who could step onto the top line (at any position) and produce.

I'm really warming up to this trade. Campoli put up 34 points as a rookie. Let's hope he can duplicate that.
