I could be wrong but I believe if he is traded, he can go straight to that team's NHL club without having to clear waivers. He would have to clear re-entry waivers to play with the Senators though, and if he were claimed, we'd be on the hook for half his remaining salary and the claiming team paying the other half.

From what I recall with the Bulin in Chicago I think if he is assigned to the AH then he needs to clear re-entry. In this case Gerber has not yet been assigned.

I wonder if there is a timeframe. Gerber is in limbo right now, not having an assignment. I wonder what, if any, the time limit is on that. Surely there has to be one.

Scratch Smith. Bell scored the game winner vs. Washington. What kind of message does that send? Besides with Volchie back, as someone else pointed out, we're too slow with Volchie, Smith and Phillips all in the lineup.

Mistake sorry,
Schubert stays on Offense because Volchie is back

So,
Volchie, Kuba
Philipps, Lee
Picard, Smith/Bell

Not sure if there is. Didn't they do that with Andrewchuk? Waived him but told him he didn't have to report to the AHL?

I thought he retired though, and the team was on the hook for his cap hit. I don't really remember lol.

Yeah, got this in my inbox just now:

The Ottawa Senators today recalled centre Peter Regin from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

Not sure who's scratched though.

Not surprised to see Regin back up. He was only demoted so the team could save his cap hit over the days during the All-Star break. Pretty common really. Columbus used to shuttle players back and forth whenever they had stretches of 4 or so days off all the time.

I like this guy a lot.

I especially like that he's been the catalyst for getting Fisher on the wing.

Also, I noticed that Regin has hockey sense. On his first shift alone, he went to where the puck ended up about 4 times.

4 - 2 Sens. Elias and Parise held goal-less. Hey it worked with Washington so if nothing else it's a good luck charm post :D

All of this. I feel the same way. Forces Fisher to the wing...check. Hockey sense and good board work...check. Skill...check.

I'd be happy frankly if he stayed in Ottawa the rest of the year to hone his skills at the NHL level.

We have odd luck of getting on a roll and then just when we're *hot*, a big stretch of no play comes along to tempt the lazy train.....

let's hope we break this pattern tonight!

Someone want to make a topic out of Smith being scratched? It seems topic worthy (I knew this morning and forgot to say anything).
