No, Elliott was not particularly good. However, the Senators, as they do game after game, gave up too many scoring chances. They failed to control the play, and the Devils had this one well in hand after midway in the second period.

Few goaltenders can win when their team plays so obviously badly as the Senators did last night.

Elliott seems like a good kid and tough enough to shake this one off. But as you say, expect no miracles.

I normally wouldn't complain, but we're in South Ottawa, it takes us a solid hour and 45 minutes from the house to the seat, maybe even 2 hours. It's cold, we've both worked all day, we just want to see a Diddle little bit of effort put out there.

That kind of Dung last night is the reason why season tickets for next year will drop like a rock. Who the Diddle wants to see those idiots play? They don't care, why should we anymore.

I'm embarrassed. I'm embarrassed that Hartsburg scratched Jason Smith for Brendan Bell, that our blueline sucks, that Spezza, Heatley and Alfredsson flat out DO NOT CARE anymore. That Picard is regressing, that Smith was in the press-box, that Fisher sucks, that Kelly is a waste of a roster spot, that Phillips has regressed to a 6th D-man.

God damn it! Talk about being pissed. I was numb last night - I'm Diddle pissed this morning.

on the radio today (Variety 104) I heard an add for Sens tickets against the Kings, like $19 a ticket. Tell me the franchise is not desperate. In my 6 years of living here I've never heard a more desperate sales pitch for ticket sales.

the whole team stank, Elliot included. Just like i said earlier, a big multi day break undoes all the progress made.

Earth to Team: you are being booed in your own building. Smarten the Frank Up!

I think its safe to say that he needs to be better and the team needs to be MUCH better.

I read a crazy stat earlier - I think it was in the citizen: Jersey is something like 27-0-1 when leading after 2 periods and the Sens are 1-18-1 when trailing after 2. We could have all just shut off our TVs or walked out of the building during the second intermission.

Carey Price, Pogge, Shneider... They all had awful games this season. Not a big deal about Elliott IMO.

Schneider is completely unproven. Pogge sucks. Price is relatively unproven.
One of them is back in the AHL. One of the should be...and the other is ready for the NHL.

All goalies have bad games. No Dung. But not all goalies are busy trying to prove they belong in the NHL. If Gerber had allowed that 2nd goal or had a game like that, people would have been ripping him to shreds.

I dont think anyone here is suggesting that Elliott has nothing to learn anymore. THats why I responded.

A young goalie at a $mil or less gets a pass...a vet making $3.7MM doesn't.

Here's a contrasting perspective from Columbus after last night's win...from Hitch himself.

"We can see that we're not just looking at, if we get lucky we might squeak in (the playoffs). We're looking up and seeing that people are catch-able. We’re not pretending we’re in a race; we're in a race, a battle and the players recognize (the situation). Games matter, every point is important and he’d be the first to recognize the complete change over in the fans. There's a different atmosphere in the building and they have a sense of urgency, just as we do."

And watching Rick Nash last night, I wondered what the Senators would be like if Heatley and/or Spezza played with that kind of intensity.

I actually don't understand at all.... What was it in my posts that made you think that Elliott's performance was a big deal or that I didn't acknowledge that he has more to learn?

I don't disagree with that but it doesn't change the fact that he had a bad game.
By consistently neglecting bad games, they build up and disappointment ensues. On the other hand, acknowledging his performance for what it is keeps things realistic.

Personally, I don't like when things get neglected or blown out of proportion - whether they are good things or bad things, they need to be acknowledged and they need to be viewed accurately.

I was referring to this:

"He has a LOT of work to do before he is ready to be a starter in this league"

I just wanted to say that I think everybody agrees on this. That it is normal that a Rookie goaltender can look shaky some nights.

My intention was not to contradict, or anything of the sort Wink

I also say that I want him to stay in Ottawa for the rest of this season so he can learn how to be a starter in this league. And I understand that it is normal for rookies to look shaky - it was your inference to the contrary that caused my confusion.

Anyways, we're all on the same page... Smile
