Let's not forget that McGuire has a SC ring, that is one more than anyone else on this forum.

You're right. That's because no one has ever challenged him. It's always a love-in when fans call in or write in. This is the first time and the reaction is shockingly strong isn't it?

Using a Stanley Cup ring to defend McGuire is like him comparing Elliott to Roy and Brodeur to defend his position. Highly disproportionate.

You are wrong, McGuire has been challenged many times on both radio and tv. A few years back he made remarks about how Lalime was not good enough of a tender to win a cup, Ottawa fans were all over him.

Let's be real here, Pierre has forgotten more about hockey than anyone on this website can ever dream of knowing. He was hand picked by Scotty Bowman for a damn good reason.

If people in Ottawa were offended by his remarks than that is just to bad!

Since you were so helpful earlier - It should actually read: then that is just too bad! Wink

I voted No. I don't think he needs to apologize for anything. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. As much as he is starting to irritate me, he can say what he wants. We all believe what we want to believe, and say what we want to say, it is a free world.

I would like to punch him in the teeth sometimes though.

No argument there. Scotty Bowman did invent hockey, after all. He had no problems apologizing to that tool Greco, so why not the Ottawa fanbase?

This is really getting so far off point, but spelt is a perfectly acceptable past participle of spell.

If the opinion of a guy on the verge of securing his PhD in English (2-3 weeks to thesis submission!) holds any authority with you, then I definitely second that "spelt" is a perfectly acceptable form for "spell" in the past tense.

Such matters are ultimately arbitrary and determined by usage, anyway. Why do we say "learnt" and not "learned" (unless we mean learned, in the sense of 'being educated, wise, erudite')? "Felt" and not "feeled"? "Dealt" and not "dealed"? And so on? Because, over the course of some 400 years of usage, people came to use those forms to express those ideas. Language is prescriptive.

Well, I certainly appologize. I had no idea that spelt was used properly there.
I learned/learnt something new.

Mojo wrote:I got to be honest, this poll is ridiculous. The guy is on the radio. He can say whatever he wants. If you don't like it, don't tune in. He doesn't owe anyone any apologies. Now with that said, he is a douche and often talks out of his Donkey.

I have to disagree. If it wasn't for people like me listening to TGOR they would not be able to sell as much advertising. If not for that money they would not be able to pay Pierre to call in. If someone is willing to stop listening because of what he says, then he should either apologize or be prepared to lose a bit of his income.

Does he have to apologize? Of course not. Should he? Of course he should (I try to teach my kids all the time -- if you hurt someone's feelings, even if you didn't mean to, apologize).

An apology isn't an admission of guilt; it is an acknowledgment of the other people's feelings. If he doesn't apologize it just proves that he either *meant to* insult, or he doesn't care that he did so. I really don't see a third option.

As for the poll itself, it's a valid question to ask. I don't think it's ridiculous at all.

P.S. I've aways been a big Pierre supporter; now I wonder if I was being an apologist.

If the world was a bit more like this in general, it'd be a much nicer place.
Your post mirrors my feelings exactly.

haha this is a little much. McGuire makes a lot of ridiculous comments. A petition seems a little drastic

Considering that the poll is split so far and has gotten 22 responses I'd say it was atleast worth asking the question.

This just in Pierre McGuire is not in the league anymore and has been a television commentator for some time now. So I don't think his word counts THAT much anymore or he would be in top scouting positions or still coaching for that matter. Don't worry haters his day will come. My prediction: He takes a MONSTER slap shot to his bald dome while standing down at ice level between the benches.
