It's about that time of year again where we start putting together what we feel will be the opening night lineup for the Sens. Now that Murray has all but confirmed he's done with his lineup, outside of some RFA re-signings, I present to you what I feel will be the lineup come early October. Feel free to post your own. Lets discuss and analyse this lineup. Keep in mind that I also didn't run the figures to see if this even works cap wise and we also don't know what Regin or Campoli will get yet.

Top 6 - Regin, Spezza, Alfie, Michalek, Fisher, Kovalev

Bottom 7 - Neil, Ruutu, Kelly, Butler, Foligno, Winchester, Z. Smith

Top 4 D men - Phillips, Karlsson, Kuba, Gonchar

Bottom 3 D men - Carkner, Cowen, Campoli

Goalies - Leclaire, Elliott

As for Ryan Shannon and Brian Lee - I don't think either of them make the team. What happens to them? If we're lucky we get something for them.

Interesting note: Ottawa Senators.com has Regin listed under forwards and they do not have Campoli listed despite neither of them re-signing as of yet. Thinking

Foligno - Winchester - Butler/Z.Smith
Ruutu - Kelly - Neil

Phillips - Gonchar
Kuba - Karlsson
Campoli - Carkner

Elliott
Leclaire

Something like that.

No. What do you think happens. I personally believe we don't bring in anything else and what I posted is what we go with. If you think they trade some players then post what you think happens. It's all in good fun anyway.

I'll still stick with what I had. I think one of Shannon or Lee is moved - probably Shannon, and Lee will become our 7th D-man for when injuries hit. It's a solid lineup IMO.

I personally think Shannon and Lee go to the minors and Campoli and Carkner filter through the 7th D role while Cowen makes the team.

If we waive Lee though we'll definitely lose him. He's on a 1 way. I'd rather get something for him than lose him.

I don't think we can send Shannon to the minors and pay 600K for an AHLer. I mean...we could, but I doubt that happens personally.

Seriously though, Shannon can easily be traded for a 6th rounder. Its Brian Lee who still may fall under that 'prospect' category, though he hasn't completely panned out, he could be used in a bigger trade though.

We'll see. There's almost no player movement happening these days. Especially not a salary for nothing kind of thing, even if it's 600K.

Funnily, there were a couple of proposals of Shannon for Nycholat again, but this time flip-flopped obviously.

Trade Kuba and Smith to STL for Berglund (they need defence and have lots of of Centres) Smith sweetens the deal.

Trade Lee and Shannon for highest picks possible

re-sign Sutton

Not happening. St.Louis has zero need for Kuba or Smith. They're definitely not trading away another forward prospect - especially for that.

They wouldn't trade Berglund for Kuba and Smith. Berglund has a ton of potential.

- Foligno (difficulties re-signing), Shannon, and Lee all get traded; ideally for picks and prospects.
- Smith cracks the lineup and they attempt to mould him into Kelly
- Kelly gets a chance to center a young, balanced scoring/shutdown line
- Wick and Butler both make it; Butler plays in top-six by year's end
- Cowen makes it; plays a stay-at-home role with Gonchar
- Carkner takes Campoli out in tougher games / plays while Kuba is inured (which is bound to happen)
- Winnie 13th man; puts pressure on Smith, Butler, and Wick
