The team is appealing the supsension. They stand to lose the most out of this after what they spent to acquire Cormier.

I guess you can feel a little sorry for the team - they paid a hefty price to acquire him, and the team is in financial trouble and needs to go far in the playoffs and memorial cup to stay alive. They have a lot riding on this. At the same time, you cannot pity them and allow this dirt bag to get off with such a horrific incident.

They have every right to appeal, same with Cormier - it is their right to do so, and why wouldn't they? Any team would stick up for their player on principal. And prior to the WJC's I don't think there was any indication he would do something like this, at least not well documented. Yes, the trade finalized after the WJC's, but still, the team is screwed because of this.

He shouldn't have done it, plain and simple. Good guy to have on your team, he may very well have just screwed any chance they had at anything. Way to go buddy! What about the kid he hit? He can't play for the remainder of the season either, he may not be able to play ever again, period. He didn't think of anyone but himself in that moment he hit Tam.

Rumors (and they are just that right now) are surfacing that his previous team had him tested for Steroids and a psych evaluation done on him before trading him because he was showing signs of random violence.

Again this is a rumor as I haven't seen anything printed about it yet, but the story goes on to say that for the 4 or 5 months he's had several episodes where out of the blue he suddenly turns violent (ala the World Junior exhibition game against Sweden. The kid he hit with the elbow did nothing to deserve it but out of the blue he suddenly goes violent).

We'll see if this has legs, but personally I don't want a Downie wannabe on my team in New Jersey.

I heard that they test for Steroids in the Q no matter what. It's a yearly test they do. He tested negative.

I don't even think he had the time to think.

Cormier has been charged with assault for the hit. Could face 19 months in jail if convicted.

Wow! What will happen to his career? What a dumb move by him, hopefully he learns his lesson.

Meanwhile, the Thrashers LOVE Bergfors and call the Devils to thank them yet again for making that trade.

He's money! I love that kid. I use him in my NHL10 as you know. I always have to have him when I build teams, he's the poo!
