I agree. The chart sucks arse. Don't worry this isn't a brand new home just new to me. It's the possession date for a home that was built in 1976 so I'm fine.

Congratulations Clutch! We're in the process of building our first home as well.

Did you buy existing or build new Clutch? We just did our first selection studio appointment. It's fun to go and pick out all the different things for the new home.

This is our second house. Both have been previously owned. Our first was a Condo Townhome. This one is a 7 plus acre plot of land with a split level 4 bedroom home built in '76.

We'll still be going to similar appointments as we have big plans for this place including an addition over the garage to add a new Master suite and an extra bedroom. We also plan on taking all the walls out between the living room, dining room and Kitchen putting hardwood in and gutting the kitchen.

Nice. Sounds like you'll have all the perks of a newer home when it's all said and done. With the housing market here in Calgary, we realized it's basically the same price to get into a new home and have the benefit of the newest technologies (heating, insulation etc) and have the peace of mind of knowing where the house has been so to speak. We are also building in one of Calgary's lake communities, which is a huge plus. A 43 acre lake for the private use of the community, complete with a large beach, all sorts of sports, fishing, boating. In the winter they freeze it over and make several rinks for skating. It's awesome, kind of like having a private Fitzroy Harbour or Mooney's Bay in our backyard.

We managed to get through picking several things without too much of a fight lol. We managed to agree on the style of granite countertops, tiling and flooring. Next appointment though is window coverings which I am sure is bound to cause a ruckus. We definitely don't see eye to eye there. And the count down is on! 270956

Nice. We thought about building but it would have meant a much longer stay at my mother inlaw's and neither of us were too excited at that prospect.

This place was ideal because of it's location (10 min from SBP), it's close to a new estate lot community but we still have the feel of country living without having to drive to our neighbours. It also has two ponds, which we can freeze over and play pond hockey on. Not 43 acre ponds but still a nice size Smile We also have an inground pool which we'll be getting a heater for. It's a mostly treed lot so not a tonne of lawn to mow.

We, of course, won't be able to do all the things planned immediately but, the house had the potential to be what we wanted as none of the walls we'll be removing are load bearing.

You'll get a big sense of satisfation doing it all yourself too. Not to mention, probably end up making the house worth more than what you put into it, so from an investment standpoint, that's sweet. Living a little closer to nature is also so much more peaceful too imo.

Your ponds may not be as big, but you don't have to share them with the riff-raff. And the count down is on! 62136

Could be worse. They haven't even broken ground on my house yet. The townhouse where we live now has ONE (1) washroom. Meaning 1 toilet and 1 tub for 5 human beings.

July isn't coming quick enough!

Mattamy sucks. My brother bought in Barrhaven by the Home Depot and his patio door has been leaking ever since he moved in Oct. '08. Has had 4-5 doors replaced and no solution.

The townhouse we used to own had 3 bathrooms and 2 tubs for 2 adults and one toddler.

The new place has the same number of bathrooms but only 1 tub, is about 1000 square feet larger and has one more bedroom than our previous house. It also has a 3 car garage vs. the single we used to have.
