Veteran Montreal Canadiens defenceman Patrice Brisebois is set to announce his retirement after an 18-year career in the National Hockey League.

The 38-year-old finishes his career with 1009 games played, 98 goals and 322 assists for 420 points.

During the 2008-09 season, Brisebois hit an important milestone as he played in his 1000th NHL game.

The Montreal native is third all-time in games played for the Habs, having laced up the skates 896 times for the red, white and blue.

Brisebois was drafted by Montreal 30th overall in the second round of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

Since breaking into the league in 1990-91, the 6'2, 197-pound blueliner spent 16 of his 18 seasons with the Canadiens, having had a stint with the Colorado Avalanche from 2005 to 2007.
