B-SENS SIGN FORWARD BRANDON SVENDSEN
09/23/2009 2:08 PM
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators announced today that they have signed right wing Brandon Svendsen to a one-year American Hockey League contract.

The 24 year-old Rosewood, Minn. native served as alternate captain with the Bowling Green Falcons last season where he registered 12 goals and 18 assists for a career-high 30 points in 38 games played.

Svendsen also skated with the Idaho of the ECHL during the 2008-09 season. He tallied four goals and 15 assists for 19 points with the Steelheads and appeared in four playoff games.

Yay! Ahhhhh!

So I guess he impressed enough to get an AHL contract. Good for Bingo but I won't expect anything else from him.

Max Gratchev dominated the first two pre-season games on a tryout, getting 3 points in the first game and a Gordie Howe in the second and they just cut him. Some things are not meant to understand.

Michael Sharp, the B-Sens blogger has this to say about the situation:

Michael Sharp wrote:If there's been a surprising move, or at least an eyebrow-raising move, so far in Binghamton's camp, it was probably the decision Monday to
release Max Gratchev from his tryout contract.

This, after Gratchev put up three goals and two assists in two preseason games over the weekend.

Here's B-Sens head coach Don Nachbaur, on the decision to release him:

"He played really well, and all those guys deserved a longer look. But, with all the contracted players coming back, we wanted to get down to numbers. Obviously, he's opened our eyes to the future, in case we run into problems. But at the end of the day, we had to get down to numbers. So, it made him expendable. But I thought he had a real good showing. Excellent showing, to be honest with you."

He couldn't put up a ppg in the Q as a (5th year) overager. Sometimes 2 games just don't tell the story. This seems to be one of those occasions.

Diddle yeah! I loved Svendsen at the rookie tourny. No guarantees what happens from here, but it will be nice to catch a game or two to watch him play.
