Do they need him right away? He's still 18 (won't turn 19 until December) and defensemen, even exceptional ones, usually take some time before they are ready for the NHL. Phaneuf was a full-time contributor at 21 (or 20?) so 18 is really, really pushing it.

But, back to my question -- do they really need him? It's not like they are Cup contenders this year; probably not even playoff ready. My guess is, they'll evaluate him at camp but most likely send him to the farm. Then around December, if it looks like the Kings are in the hunt for a playoff spot, they might bring him up.

I'm not even sure they have a roster space for him? I have a feeling if he was a Senator he'd be playign for us this season.

Strike what I said. Checking NHLSCap.com, LA only has *four* defensemen signed to a contract: Preissing, Johnson, Gauthier and Greene. It looks like they need him.

I think he's a King and if he doesn't make the team doesn't he have to go to Junior based on age?

Wonder if Hickey will play too? OR Harrold?
