even Toronto? they got tougher, but they still can't score.

Here's my analysis of Toronto. Burke thinks he can use the same formula he did in Anaheim without the foundation Bryan Murray left for him.

As for the other teams, I just don't think anyone overpaid for the people they got. Most teams either improved or went sideways which is not so bad.

Montreal might have improved slightly at a heavy price.

Brian Gionta at 5 x 5 = D

I'm sorry, it's just WAY too much for way too long.

He probably does have a good chance of clicking with Gomez and Cammalleri, tho'. Still, for that kind of money, I don't want any gambles.

I do think Gainey was smart in reuniting Gomez and Gionta but the price tag is pretty high. They certainly had chemistry with Elias so for the Habs sake they better click with Cammaleri.

they still have Price between the pipes, so unless Gainey gets away from the whole "Price is the 2nd coming of Roy" mind set, that team will still falter, they may score a few more goals, but they will still be giving up quite a few. They need to make Halak their # 1 guy.

I can't imagine why Gainey would balk at a deal with the Lightning for Lecavalier. But if Price had anything to do with it, it's just plain stupid.

not sure who balked on that deal, but either way, Gainey is desperately trying to save face, the Gomez deal, overpaying for Cammalleri in my opinion, and then Gionta, I like Gionta, but am starting to understand why people think he is overpaid as well, Gainey is very desperate at this point, and if it fails again, you would have to think his days are numbered, especially under new ownership.

Toronto did nothing. I'm really surprised so far. Montreal paid a hefty price to get marginally better - but at least they got better. Burning Car

The Leafs went sideways IMO, but at least they're getting younger and tougher.

Out: Kubina, Antropov

In: Komisarek, Bozak (and Exelby, for whom I don't care much)

If I'm a Leafs fan, I'm happy.

don't forget Colton Orr, tough, but may be a bit of a headcase, not sure on that one.

I think acquiring Orr changes about as much as the Habs' acquiring Laraque.

He's going to play about 5 minutes a night.
