Do it!

Here is a math trick so unbelievable that it will stump you.

Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head)

1. Key in the first 3 digits of your phone number (Not the area code)
2. Multiply by 80
3. Add 1
4. Multiply by 250
5. Add this to the last 4 digits of your phone number
6. Add to this the last 4 digits of your phone number again
7. Subtract 250
8. Divide the number by 2

That weirds me out. I'm going to have to tell my Wife that one to see if she can determine the key to this quandry (sp).

For now - Math Problem squirrel

The key is steps 2 and on. They are geared to ensure you end up back with the 4 digit number you give it. You can do this with any starting number.

Very queer (and by queer, I mean odd...not that there's anything wrong with that).

You can start with any number (1,2,4,5,6 digits etc...) you'll end up with those 4 digits appended to the number you started with.

7 digit number is abcdefg =

10000000*a+100000*b+10000*c+1000*d+100*e+10*f+g

1. Key in the first 3 digits of your phone number (Not the area code)
a*100 + b*10 + c

2. Multiply by 80
8000*a+800*b+80*c

3. Add 1
8000*a+800*b+80*c + 1

4. Multiply by 250
2000000*a+200000*b+20000*c + 250

5. Add this to the last 4 digits of your phone number
2000000*a+200000*b+20000*c + 250 + 1000*d + 100*e + 10*f +g

6. Add to this the last 4 digits of your phone number again
2000000*a+200000*b+20000*c + 250 + 2000*d + 200*e + 20*f +2*g

7. Subtract 250
2000000*a+200000*b+20000*c + 2000*d + 200*e + 20*f +2*g

QED

8. Divide the number by 2
1000000*a+100000*b+10000*c + 1000*d + 100*e + 10*f + g
