Anyway - that's more cap space in Detroit. Seems the Cat deal is inevitable at this point. My guess is he gets offered somewhere in the $8.3M range but only gets offered 4-5 years. Perhaps the location helps with negotiations a bit...

I like it too. We could very well see a Kelly-Kastelic-MacEwen situation on our 4th line at some point in the season. Really leaves 3LW and 2RW to fill - one could be Tarasenko the other whoever we get for Cat.

This is a good pick up and as Ev mentioned, can be sent down without cost to the cap.

They could be negotiating term

Kevin Allen suggesting there's a deal in place but it's held up by a contract extension. Wings don't want to give Cat the term and price he wants

Huge shot in the dark here but I am guessing Cat gets a 6 x $8.25M deal with Detroit. Puts him behind Larkin, doesn't lock him in for 8 years, but it does take him to 32 years old. Allows Cat to sign one more pre-retirement contract.

I think the trade happens this week. My guess is Tuesday with Detroit giving DeBrincat the weekend to think things over and a day or so of negotiations to work things out. A few people are speculating that Anaheim, Islanders and Capitals are in the mix but it does sound like a deal is done with Ottawa and they're hammering out a contract.

He'll make more than what Caufield got for sure and I think they can negotiate that with the cap going up, they're getting a deal at $8.25M and adding an extra year to keep the AAV down

Debrincat was traded to Detroit for Boston or Detroit 1sr rounder. Dominik kubalik, and Donovan sebrango. He signed a 4 year 7.9 million deal with Detroit. Not the greatest return but not much we could do here. The first is good enough and could be top 16. Thag contract stinks for Debrincat

Ya. Signing tarasenko makes this a lot more palatable. Sebrango and the 4th do nothing for me. Kubalik is a UFA at the end of the year. So really we're getting Boston's 1st most likely
