I agree that we did not get a big enough return but Stone wasn't gonna resign here and our trade options were limited with where he'd likely sign an extension with.

still, not one of Dorion's finest moments as he thinks it is.

I 100% believe that Mark Stone would've resigned here. Maybe we would've had to "overpay" a little ($10M?), but it absolutely would have been worth it. That trade was so stupid at the time, so stupid now, so stupid forever.

The fact that Vegas is just blatantly outclassing Vancouver is a bit frightening for the rest of the league. It's hard to see anyone beating them at this point. I bet on them for the Cup weeks ago at something like +1400. Glad I did.

I got them at +1700. They are in a class by themselves.

How so? Vancouver isn't an amazing team and this is their first playoff taste. These playoffs have been a farce so far in my opinion. Completely uncompelling hockey. The fact that the Islanders are going to make the ECF is hilarious.

Was it also a joke in 2017? The Isles were the 7th best regular season team for a huge portion of this season. In 2017, how was Ottawa in the regular season?

I think beating St Louis was a big accomplishment and a big step for Vancouver. They looked very, very good. And now Vegas is makin' em look like chumps.

You're right, these playoffs are weird, although I won't call them uncompelling or a farce. The Lightning/Boston series has had competitive, fun games, and some of the series from previous rounds were fun. It totally sucks that every series is at 3-1 right now. Hopefully things get a little better here.

They were pretty similar - the Isles and Sens both had negative goal differentials in their respective seasons. Ottawa had way more offensive weapons in my opinion that made them more exciting. The Islanders IMO not in the same class as Boston or Tampa, but time will tell.

Exciting doesn’t mean good. And I obviously meant to say 2017. Gimme a Barry Trotz team over a Florida all-offence exciting team any day. Trotz even has his team scoring goals these playoffs anyway.

The Isles are really good. They're a team that can roll 12 forwards and 6 d-men and everyone has bought in. they're going to be tough to beat

Agreed.

Cap issues next year will have them losing Toews most likely. Dobson should be decent. Hopefully Pulock takes a bigger offensive role too.

I'm curious to see where fleury goes next year. Imagine the leafs trying to make room for him

How do you see that working for Toronto? They already have major salary cap issues. Getting rid of Andersen gives them $5M back...but Fleury is $7M for the next two seasons.

Hopefully we see Philly and Vancouver win tonight to make this round of the playoffs more interesting.

i don't see it either but maybe Vegas takes salary back.
I personally don't think Fleury is an upgrade. quite the opposite. I actually see him capable of completely Dung the bed.
and so I'd like this move.

Nylander will be moved and they'll clear space by not re-upping barrie, spezza, etc. I see Toronto with a small window. Tavares will start to decline in a few years and Matthews will either make more money or will sign elsewhere when his contract is up. If Nylander stays, I imagine they trade Kerfoot. Could be wy they went out and got Rodrigues.
