If Bobby Ryan was on another team with the exact same stats and contract, and Pierre Dorion traded any asset of value for him, we would be flipping out. Realistically, we might take a chance on him if the other team ate half of his salary. This has Garth Snow written all over it.

not really. We just did that with Phaneuf.

personally I think it's totally ignorant to just focus on his stats this season.

I believe that was "game summary".

If Jarry has been sent back to the minors then it means Murray is healthy. He practiced on Monday and gave this quote:
I felt pretty good. It's like a day-by-day thing right now. Getting back in practice was a big step. Same answer every guy will give you. It felt good, but you gotta see how you react the day after and stuff like that. Taking it one day at a time.

So I'd guess he's going to backup tonight then start against the Sens. Good. A rusty goalie with a wonky knee, playing behind a tired team. We will win 1-0 in a shootout.

Hmmm, what to do about Smith?...

On the one hand, he's definitely the most solid definition of a top 9 forward, a guy that can play on the third line and not hurt you if he moves up to the top 6. He's become more valuable to us than I thought he would, but do you give him 4 million?

I'd love a deal where it's 4 years at 3.75. Can it be done? If not, you have to think they move him.

Yeah it does sound like something snow would do. Someone to play with Tavares.

I wouldn't want smith here ate anything over 3 years. And anything north of 3 million is a bad idea.
Lets be honest here, sure he's playing in the top 6 but how likely is it that he keeps playing there? And how likely is it that he scores 20 again? No, as it's been pointed out we should deal him at the trade deadline. Will it happen? No. will he get resigned and will we regret it? Probably.
The consolation might be that if he did get resigned and played with Pageau, we might end up seeing either Bobby Ryan or white on that line pretty soon and that might be a fairly dangerous line.

With Tampa fumbling at the bottom wouldn't it be time to revisit a ceci for Drouin trade?
Mind you ceci isn't being super productive, he is playing bigger minutes and maybe his stock is higher and Drouin's stock might have dropped a bit since returning and lighting it all up in tampa.

Meh, he's worth more than 3 million X 3 years and I'm not a super fan of his streakiness. So you'd trade him then?

I'd love to do Ceci + for Drouin. Ceci + what though.

Yeah I think I would. Because in the end I feel we might regret it. But what do I know. I've been wrong before.
I certainly don't feel he's worth more than taking 3 million in cap space and anything more than 3 years is too much.

When you look at that then you would think that his logical move would be to test free agency.

Well it wouldn't need to be ceci and white anymore.
I'm not sure. Maybe ceci and our first for Drouin and a 3rd? Tampa isn't dealing in a position of strength anymore.

Theoretically, yes. But a deal for Drouin was already nixed last season over our refusal to deal Ceci so I doubt it happens now.

I'd also be worried about giving up a piece that we don't have a lot of depth in for a piece that we do have depth in. Behind Ceci we don't really have a good RHD option in the system.

We have Brown, White, Perron, Paul, McCormick, Robinson, Varone who can all fulfill a bottom six position. I actually don't think our top-six needs an overhaul. I think our bottom six does which will naturally sort itself out if Mac can play and White joins the team for the playoffs. There is no need to make a trade for a forward just yet unless it's moving Ryan out. By the end of the year I am envisioning:

Smith-Brass-Stone
Hoff-Turris-Ryan
Mac-Pageau-White
Dzingel-Kelly-Pyatt
Extra: Lazar, Neil

If anything I'd be looking at getting a prospect back for Lazar who at this point we may lose if he's unprotected. I'd try to get Duclair or something out of Edmonton for Lazar.

Yeah, but Phaneuf is a right D.

I think he meant that Phaneuf can play right side if Ceci is moved.
