I'd be playing Puempel, trying Dzingel on L2, and give Paul/Perron some chances later on in the season.

I'd also trade Ceci for Trouba. Fair deal IMO.

Sounds a lot like the last 3 seasons.  Any chance we actually try to make the playoffs in the next while?
Yeah, doesn't seem to match up with the tem philosophy of win now.

Also Winnipeg is interested in receiving a LHD not a righty in return. I'd be down to make that trade but I don't see it happening.

I don't necessarily see it being Winnipeg wanting a LHD. Trouba wants out because of the bottleneck on the right side - Winnipeg doesn't seem to care.

There would be no bottleneck in Ottawa for him and it would allow Ceci to play with less pressure in Winnipeg in the bottom pairing which is where he should be playing right now

Didn't they actually come out and say they wanted a top 4 LHD? scratch

I can't watch.  Just tell me when it's over old friend.

It. Is. Ovah!

Meanwhile, our old pal Milan Michalek hits the waiver wire.
Do we put in a claim? Might be interesting. Could probably use him.

Both michaleks waived this year.

There's zero chance we claim 9MM. Too much $$, and also it would just kind of clutter up the roster when I'm sure Dorion wants a space for Lazar.

I'm not sure of the order, except for line 4, but this is what we're looking at vs. Vancouver.

Hoffman-Turris-Pyatt
Dzingel-Brassard-Ryan
Smith-Pageau-Stone
Puempel-Kelly-Neil

If Lazar comes up he's not taking out Pyatt or Stone. Neil and Ryan should both worry a little. What we need is a good old-fashioned injury.

Hahaha, Ryan should worry a little? Come on. To me, in the bottom 6 Pyatt, Neil, Kelly, Dzingel and Pageau are pretty much locked, so either Pyatt plays the left side or Lazar plays the left side or something shakes out, but Neil's looked good enough to play.

You can bet that Pyatt won't be coming out.  When Lazar comes in, it'll be Puempel going back the other way or sitting in the press box.

Puempel isn't playing now so I doubt he leaps over Lazar even if he is a leftie and they need a leftie. I could be wrong but my gut says Puempel is finished here.

Like I've been saying. Two Francophone coaches, drafting more francophone players (Perron, Chabot, Gagne), swapping Zibanejad for Brassard.

Habs lead the league with a 5-0-1 record, only team without a regulation loss, league-leading +13 goal differential. The only blemish on their near-perfect record? A shootout loss to the Sens, with EK getting the winner. Time to start putting together a little winning streak and catch that Ole-chanting, turtleneck-wearing, Russian-reclamation-project-grabbing, Euro-trash of a team.

Great start to the road trip. Now on to Calgary and Edmonton, before returning home to host Carolina and Vancouver -- that will be their 10th game of the season. That's the first evaluation point.

a 5-3 record heading back to Ottawa is pretty realistic. 7-3 in the first 10 games as well. Hard to assess where we're at considering we've beaten the teams we should have beaten and lost to the ones we should have lost. Additionally, the goals for/against is skewed. Two blow out games really hurt our GAA (Detroit/Tampa) and the Arizona game got a little wild (a lot of goals for typically equates to a lot of goals against).

Given the quality of teams we have beaten and lost to, I think we're right where we should be with no clear indication of how the team will be this year. We can score goals and we can't stop them.

Our PK and PP are also brutal. Much hasn't changed from last year and I expect a similar fate.

The game against Edmonton is going to be *tough*.

Our PK has been far better so far. And our PP looks far better.

We will be far better in both at the end of the season

Their defence is suspect, but their forwards are very strong.
