Nah.  Dubnyk had one bad game, but he'll be fine.  He's been pretty much the hottest goalie on the planet since whenever he got traded.

Yes, but his history is full of mediocrity. I was trolling the Habs fans on HFBoards saying how our back up set an all-time NHL record with the best SV% over a full season. Of course they dismissed it, but right now Andy has a better SV% over the last two games than Price. And Price gave up 5 goals in the first two games so if I take his overall SV% for the series it wouldn't even be close. 3 goal then 2 then 1 -- all the Habs fans and media were extrapolating that line and predicting a shutout. Well, they were right about the shutout.

Anyhow, back to Minnesota. Dubnyk was the same story as Hammond, except he was playing for a much better team (defensively) and has been at it for longer. All those games in a row you can't tell me he's not a little tired. Kuemper stopped all 9 shots he faced so Dubnyk's leash is likely a little shorter than 6 goals in the next game.

Dubnyk is far from the same story as Hammond. Dubnyk was pretty good for the Oilers, just the Oilers were terrible. Dubnyk was really solid for the Coyotes, and the Coyotes traded him because they wanted to tank. Dubnyk didn't come out of nowhere.

First round pick too. I've always believed in Dubnyk and he's a guy that I'm sure I said I would have liked to get in an Edmonton/Ottawa BLOCKBUSTER!!!!! Beer

No, not really that far. He got to the NHL a lot sooner and didn't have success. Hammond got to the AHL later and didn't have success. Both had success at the NHL level this season, both didn't have NHL success previously. We'll see how Dunbyk fares the rest of the way but I'd be really surprised to see him repeat this performance.

Dubnyk has been playing well in the NHL for a number of years now. His numbers just didn't reflect that because he was with Edmonton.

I maintain that he was *not* playing well until he got to Phoenix. Maybe something kicked in and he applied himself better. Don't know exactly what it was but he certainly started playing better, then went to a different level in Minny. I'm still not convinced this is sustainable, as there is nothing in his past (at least not at this level) to indicate that he is an elite-level goalie.

Hey, if I'm wrong, I'll be the first one to tell you. 'Cause it'll be huge news. Huge! (or as Dave Cameron would say, "Yuge!")

No one could stop a puck behind that D. It's the reason Matt O'Connor won't sign there and ruin his career before it has a chance to get started.

Yah that was. That Wilson hit turned that series around, I don't think the Caps look back in round 1 here.

And now I join the Rags game in OT to the delightful chant of "Crysby Sucks".

Good riddance. They really should have moved Malkin back when and kept Staal. I'd imaging they could pay for a couple pretty good wingers with Malkin's salary.

It's not Crosby, it's not Malkin. Not Fleury either. The real story in Pittsburgh is they can't draft and develop to save their lives. About as bad as Toronto.
Tell me which impact player came out of their system since Jordan Staal 9 years ago. I'll pay your Game 6 tickets if you find one.
I think Muzzin is the one that comes even close, and he's not even there anymore.

The only possible examples in the last 5 years are Despres, who is good but very far from great (Boro-ish) and Maata (far better example of a top player).

Maata is the only guy there that could conceivably have a significant impact on a season. He doesn't seem to be there yet, but who knows?

Either way, ya, looking through their draft lists does not make for easy reading.

In other news, Cheering Go Sens. Kermit

they did just change management recently so it will be hard to tell which way this boat goes. i'm not aware of how many changes were made internally when rutherford came in and if they brought a whole different scouting staff. he's got to be already a little under the gun now. he was brought in to win now so we'll see.

Exactly. They had two generational players fall into their lap and they have only won 1 cup in a decade when they should have won 3, maybe 4.

For every Toews you need a Saad. For every Kopitar you need a Brown. You need depth and help around you, 2 players only gets you so far.

They are 2 year from being out of the playoffs on a regular basis and I don't think there is any avoiding it on their end. They are also missing a lot of picks and have missed a lot of picks going for the cup so their organization is in a lot of trouble.
