I try and be gentle with you guys most of the time, but every now and then I just have to explode brains.

I would be good money that Phillips is never scratched, so he won't be a 7th D-man. Therefore, having a bottom pairing D-man as your captain isn't the end of the world IMO.

no no no... you have to have a guy on the ice more often then that to be your captain. it just doesn't make sense.
it will come down to karlsson or turris in my opinion. i could see the outside chance of Bobby Rye getting it if by some logic they were going to try and convince him to stay by putting the C on him. that in my opinion would be a mistake. could possibly get an A but not really captain material in my opinion.

Meh, I don't really see it that way personally. Phillips is still a 15 minute a night guy and he's a solid voice in the dressing room who certainly wouldn't dismiss MacLean's messages like Spezza appeared to.

My vote is probably to Erik Karlsson - if for nothing else, the kid wants to win badly and works hard on and off the ice, but also, he's one of the last true superstars we have - and keeping him happy at this point probably trumps most other considerations.

I think Chris Neil stated publicly recently that he supports Phillips getting the C. I think Philly gets it for a "transition year" and then maybe it's handed over to Karlsson or Turris or MacA or Ryan the year after.

I don't think you give Phillips the C for one year when he's signed for 2. It's him for 2 years, or it's someone else IMO.

With the amount of Twitter love the Lehner is receiving today from fellow players, it's clear he should be the next captain.

#1. Goaltending
#2. Backup goaltending

That's what we had two years ago when everyone was injured and we made the playoffs.

Also the 'stache has to shake off that sophomore curse (yeah, I know it was his third year) and have a rebound season.

Yeah, Spezza's rebound control was the pits! So glad they got rid of him. Couldn't stop a beach ball.

HA! If if it can break the season, how can you not be concerned?

#MindBlown

Umm, because he's looking at long-term progress and is not concerned if a team with lots of young up-and-comers doesn't make the post-season this year?

The internal budget or the other one?

#BlameSpezza

He didn't buy into the system, that's for sure.  I wouldn't blame him more than I'd blame Michalek for being useless for the 1st half, or MacLean for going brain dead, but he certainly deserves some blame.  And with him gone and replaced by a consummate pro in Legwand, I can see this team being much harder on the puck.

I think that can be attributed to injury, no?

And what is back surgery, chopped liver?

How much ice time did Laurie Boschman get in the 92-93 season? With 16 points, I would guess not too much.

As already said, he won't get scratched but he'll also be a third pairing guy, not playing a lot of minutes.

Of course you can easily do Captain-y stuff sitting on the bench.

The point with being a 6/7 d-man, especially on the Sens with the glut of 6/7 d-men, is that you will be the first guy healthy scratched to make room for someone else. If Phillips is your Captain, you're not healthy scratching him.

One thing's for sure: Melnyk believes the cost per point ratio will be what makes or breaks the Sens season. :D
