Virtanen is the guy I would take with that pick, snarl and scoring which isn't easy to come by.  They missed out on Wilson from Washington so this is a guy I think they would like to lock down.

If they can snag DSP, a 1st, and some other prospect that would be perfect.

Who comes with the 10th in this scenario?

Smith Pelly and Rackell? Not sure.
Anyway, In an ideal world we get that top 9 power forward in DSP and we sign Stastny.

Basically this.

Out 4-6 months for shoulder surgery. That makes me nervous. Shoulder injuries never seem to heal properly.

You pop it once and yah, it could be trouble.  Thing is he is 18 and can bounce back quickly.  In this draft you may as well take a shot at a player you really like... obviously I am using the assumption they like Virtanen which could be way off base.

MacFarlen as well.  Again I never get anything right at the draft other than Lehner.

For sure he could. It's just one of those injuries that I'd be real careful about when drafting. I just think of a player like Havlat who has constant shoulder problems (and surgeries). Of course, I also think of my own struggle to rehab my shoulder after destroying it with rock climbing. I saw basically no improvement for over a year.

I'm not so sure Murray will take that big a gamble on a 'franchise' player, and will likely want one, if not two, NHLers back in a trade.

To Ott: Maroon, Lindholm, 1st rd pick (Anaheim)
To Anaheim: Spezza, Gryba

Not sure you need Stastny as a UFA with Lazar probably NHL ready in 1-2 years. I'm hoping Murray makes another move or two prior to July 1st so we're not taking unnecessary risks via UFA. I'd do my best to get E.Kane out of Winnipeg, and Stewart out of Buffalo to round out the top six.

Lindholm is not going anywhere. Also, let's not pencil in Lazar as a top 6 just yet, especially in 1-2 years, maybe in 4-5 years.

A lot of this fanbase is just nuts. They complain about the team for the last 6 years but then complain that Spezza is being traded.

That's the same for any fan base.

Lazar could be a third liner next year.  I'd say he can be top 6 within three years...but we may use him on the third line depending on what other forwards we pick up.

Or he can be a top 6 as of next year like Patrice Bergeron.
The truth is we don't know until it happens, but chances are it's sooner than later.

I don't see why he can't step in and compete a la Gallagher in Montreal. He's got the smarts, he's got the work ethic, he's got the skill. Let him play.

PS I wish Zibanejad would/could play the wing well.

You know Lazar will do everything he can.  Zero question about his character and work ethic.

I think Z-Bad is almost better suited to the wing.

If Lazar takes 5-6 to get to a top 6 role he's probably close to a bust, lol.  No one takes 5-6 years to work themselves into a top 6 role that is a highly touted prospect.

Lazar will come in, do his thing, earn his minutes, and work his way up the lineup.
