It's a diabolically ingenious plan, if you think about it. Hold a rally that you *know* will attract a couple dozen people. If the management had *any* second thoughts whatsoever about the outcry they'd have to face for losing the second Captain in two years, certainly this will settle any doubts, right?

So SOS -- presumably Save Our Spezza -- really stands for Shove Off Spezza.

I want those people to tell me 1 player on the remaining 4 teams in the conference finals that plays like Jason Spezza - ie all offense all the time and no back checking. Good luck figuring that one out because it doesn't exist.

Kopitar is a selke nominee, toews is a selke winner, Kane is amazing and one of the most cluth guys in history, hossa is a 2 way forward, sharp, Richards, brown, plekanec...

Gaborik.. would be all I could think of. But it takes more than 1 player to win a series..

I thought of Gaborik as well after I wrote that. All is say about that is he's a supporting player, not a top line/captain, but that's one guy in 80. And you're right, it's a team that wins, usually not led by an offense only player like Spezza. Surely these people are watching the playoffs and see this?

Sounds like that Spezza Rally was a huge success...

"When Saturday afternoon’s rally officially started at 1 p.m., about two-dozen fans were chanting and singing their support for Jason Spezza, who turns 31 next month."

http://www.ottawasun.com/2014/05/17/spezza-fans-rally-on-the-hill

LOL.

Ottawa is so bad.

Actually at it's height there were 50.. 100 were expected.. I'm not going to criticize that part of the fan base that is the RSU for their passion for the Sens and their players -- even if all of you considered it dumb.

Kane may be "cluth" (heh) but he's never been accused of being a backchecker. He's essentially Ovechkin without the letter and surrounded by a much better system and personnel. I keep saying that there *is* a place on a winning team for such a player, just as long as that player is not expected to be a leader other than scoring goals.

I've watched a fair bit of Chicago this playoffs and I don't see Kane dogging it at all. He's not the most defensively aware player I guess, but I don't see a problem with his work ethic.

However, yes they have toews, hossa, sharp etc.

There might be a different angle Murray and co are looking at this scenario. Maybe they'll look to add 2 top 9 players that can step in immediately and have an impact instead of the prospect and pick in there.

The key in this league is clearly to have a strong 3 lines then a smith/greening/Neil 4th line.

Their supporting cast is incredible. Depth, speed, grit, experience... a great balance.

That Spezza rally was so so so sad, lol. I went to school with one of the guys on there and it just confirms by assumptions that that group of people is about as athletic and has about as much hockey knowledge as a chair.

That could be true, but I'd be shocked if Murray didn't demand a 1st back in the package after giving up his in the Ryan trade.

Listening to TSN 690 on the way to Montreal to visit the folks. Guys were talking about Spezza and how they'd actually like to see him in Montreal (yeah, that's not going to happen). They were specifically talking about him playing the right wing.

Now, as far as I know he's never played wing so these guys are full of whatever. But then I got to thinking -- maybe he *could* play wing. He certainly has a great shot and maybe would use it more off the wing. Fewer defensive responsibilities, less overall skating.

A poorly planned Dung. It was fantastic that the league scheduled the habs game at the same time lol

I know you like to make fun of people who can't touch their toes (or see them, in some cases) or bench their weight, but what does being a fan have to do with being athletic? Is someone pathetic because they are passionate? We may disagree with the *focus* of their passion but I wish more of our fan base actually gave a crap and showed it.

Sure, the "rally" was sad. But you don't really need to make fun. Cynicism doesn't make you better. Just bitter.
