A for one, i doubt that pitts would jettison malkin to bring in spezza. B malkin might be moved but that package will be huge and it will have a 2C in it who is young and with lots of potential.
my guess though is Malkin isn't moved. they will make some moves for sure but crosby and malkin will stay. at least another year under the future management. no one coming in will want to make that move right off the bat. move one of their best forward that won MVP in their cup run, no how, no way

It definitely isn't a world-beating draft class but the top-end guys are pretty good all-told. I think a lot of people project Ekblad to go 1st with Bennett and Reinhart rounding out the top-3.

I know Florida's been mentioned as a destination for Spezza but I don't know if they'd give up the pick. They have Barkov and Bjugstad as their centres long-term, and with Huberdeau in the mix as well you'd think they might try to target a D-man like Ekblad. Then again, they just set a modern record for lowest-scoring team leader, and maybe are nervous about going after a blue-liner so high after Gudbranson's relative underperformance so far (though he's still very very young).

Maybe Edmonton would give up the 3rd pick if they could just realize that they need someone to show their young kids the ropes. But I don't know if Spezza would waive for them.

It's a diabolically ingenious plan, if you think about it. Hold a rally that you *know* will attract a couple dozen people. If the management had *any* second thoughts whatsoever about the outcry they'd have to face for losing the second Captain in two years, certainly this will settle any doubts, right?
