He's a warrior but why the heck didn't the sens force him to get surgery before when it became so apparent it was hindering him? And there was a 2.5 week break to boot for the Olympics.

Whatever, hope he recovers fully and like hoags said, he doesn't go cheechoo on us.

Warrior.  Sign him ASAP.

We all knew something was up, but it's a relief to see it officially. It explains the drop-off in performance. Poor bastard.

This could actually play in the Sens favour.  You help rehab the guy, he has an off year this season, loyalty starts to build on both sides, and you sign him long term to a reasonable deal.  Take the silver lining here.

Unlike basically everywhere else I believe this is the only place that never said "trade Ryan".  This place truly is the only place where educated Sens fans post.

It was probably Ryan's call to just battle through the pain.

Recovery time is 6 weeks. Yup he should have gotten this done before the Olympics. That said, before the snub from Americans, bobby ryan was an all-star. I think it became apparent something late January or early February was affecting him.

Get well soon bobby, but in light of this news, I would say it's in HIS best interest to get a long term deal done this off season

What a guy...he plays through a Sports Hernia since November and never once did we ever hear him complain or use it as an excuse.  We all knew there was something up, but to see it in black and white - and that painful an injury really speaks to the kid's character.

Meh, depends on what Ottawa offers. I can see them starting at 7 million and agreeing on a long term 7.5 deal. He was f-ing dynamite before he was injured.

Yup, you never know when injuries start taking over and cause long term havoc.  Also, the risk of an off year next season is a risk for him as well.

From the Sens point of view you need to offer him something fair because the last thing you want is the contract status of Spezza, Ryan, MacArthur, Methot, and potentially Stewart hanging over the team all season long.  Getting Ryan is a step in the right direction and will have a trickle down effect and other guys signing might follow.

I would say 7 years at 50 mil is where it would end it for both sides but I guess we will see.

The last thing you want to do IMO - is start the season without the pending UFAs sorted out. It's too distracting and it means you're not sure what direction you want to take (again IMO).

Methot, MacArthur, Ryan and to a lesser extent Lehner and Zibenajad should be done, while decisions on Spezza and Anderson should be done as well. We need to come in focused and ready next year.

He's leaving a bit of money on the table, but that's probably fair enough in the grand scheme. I hope Melnyk's prepared.

8 years $52M. $6.5M per year. But I'd go as high as $56M...$7M per.

In more ways than one. Will give time to the young Stoner to show his wares and build some confidence to close out the season.

It's going to take $7M at least, I imagine he could get $8M elsewhere(Holmgren).

If they let Ryan go over cash then I will be calling it quits as a Sens fan, seriously.
