RT @Senators News Release: #Sens forward Bobby Ryan to undergo season-ending surgery: http://ottsens.com/1l7a83P

Warrior.  Sign him ASAP.

We all knew something was up, but it's a relief to see it officially.  It explains the drop-off in performance.  Poor bastard.

Unlike basically everywhere else I believe this is the only place that never said "trade Ryan".  This place truly is the only place where educated Sens fans post.
we need an emoticon for patting ourselves in the back.

It's going to take $7M at least, I imagine he could get $8M elsewhere(Holmgren).

Get well soon bobby, but in light of this news, I would say it's in HIS best interest to get a long term deal done this off season

Meh, depends on what Ottawa offers.  I can see them starting at 7 million and agreeing on a long term 7.5 deal.  He was f-ing dynamite before he was injured.
I would say 7 years at 50 mil is where it would end it for both sides but I guess we will see.

He's leaving a bit of money on the table, but that's probably fair enough in the grand scheme.  I hope Melnyk's prepared.
If they let Ryan go over cash then I will be calling it quits as a Sens fan, seriously.

you guys aren't generous enough. i say the sens will try and offer 6.5 per but this thing will end up at 8 years 60 mill. sure we're paying a lot but this is ottawa, and he's leaving money on the table with taxes as in the states he'd get more in terms of real cash.
I absolutely want this kid long term. played through with an injury is amazing. one could of argued that he was looking to be a replacement for team USA but he would of shut it down going into the break. he truly wanted to help the team get into the playoffs.

i won't be surprised though if he signs a 5 year contract. he might want to give us a good shot but want to have a chance to go elsewhere if we haven't done anything in 5 years.

6.5 per year might be what Ryan comes in at just for the simple fact they don't want anyone making more than Karlsson but his deal was signed pre new CBA.

ya, that's a fair estimate. especially if it's not maximum term 8 mill is right on the mark.

Very few players leave what is potentially 20 million on the table.

He looked so amazing pre-injury. This makes so much sense.

Stone looks ready - SSF is right, he's making the most of the opportunity and he, Hoffman and maybe even Da Costa look like they could be full time NHLers next season.

The team has had a good look at their options and it should lead to another package deal this summer for some immediate help.

I think this is probably close to the truth.  I think any deal involving Anderson will be for a simple draft pick, 3rd, maybe a 2nd if the Sens are lucky, it's just a super specific trade that a team needs a goalie and there are only a couple who do so the package won't be there.

Stewart IMO is the likely target but esh another RH shot but that shouldn't matter too much if Hoffman isn't part of the package.

Perhaps. I think Stone and Hoffman are making Michalek's days here numbered. If they sign Hemsky and acquire Stewart, I'd say that's a pretty successful revamp of the forwards. Now for the D...

Stone has made Michalek the most expendable player on the team, Hoffman I am still not sold on but he's showing he belongs in the NHL.  BUT with Peumpel developing into what looks to be a legit LH sniper Hoffman could be part of a package to Buffalo if Stewart is indeed a target.

I wouldn't complain if that happens, but I think Hoffman's speed combined with Hemsky's speed if we can retain him make the look of our team a lot better and more dangerous. Puempel will likely need another year in the AHL, there's no rush. He still needs to work on his play away from the puck I gather and he could still use some muscle added.

Makes for a really interesting summer to be sure. Spezza could potentially bring back the D-man we want as well, so maybe the plan is in motion to get Stewart - perhaps using Wiercioch, sign Hemsky and finally have the top 9 we've wanted for a while, with Smith's line being the 3B if you will.

NO!!!!! i'd love to keep Pumpel. he's a guy that we might be very happy to slide in within the next couple of years. you gotta keep having youth ready to come up.
right now i'd love to keep stone and Hoffman as well. i could see hoffman being the one moved out at this point if there's a trade.
Da Costa is a big question mark as far as i'm concerned. he's shown in his last call up that he's most likely capable of playing regular in the NHL but i wonder if he can handle a regular 82 game season of NHL consistently. there isn't any room for him here either.
obviously something has to give and we'll hopefully be making a trade, I'd just prefer keeping stone and hoffman (and long term)Pumpel. we've got a lot of people on defence on the team for next year, right there is where I think you have to start looking. besides i'm not sure if you see much in terms of moves before FA. might see a move for stewart at the draft with ou second and possibly wier going the other way but that's it. unless it's spezza but i see that move as more of a "going out" then coming in. besides they'll need to evaluate what they really need after they know what they get in that trade.

Too many of the same kind of player with Hoffman, Hemsky, Ryan, Turris, Spezza... all skill.  Hoffman was a 5th round pick who will probably top out as a 3rd liner, maybe an ok 2nd liner.  Still think his upside is limited but we'll see what happens I guess.

Anyways, there will be a lot of shuffling around the deck chairs in Ottawa you just hope it's not Melnyk driving the Titanic.

Hoffman is like a Mike Grabner type. Decent player but not a star or anything.

Guys like Stone and Hoffman haven't shown they can produce at a consistent level in the NHL yet. That's a big ? right now.

That's entirely possible, although I don't think I'd necessarily put Turris and Ryan as all skill and no grit. Still, that's why Stewart is so valuable to us.

Plus, why are we counting Spezza right now? I don't see the point in him starting the year in Ottawa next year unless there's a commitment from the organization in negotiating a new deal - something I could personally live with if he takes the 2C role, but I just don't see how you could possibly justify spending all that money on him. Don't see it.
